MAFIA - Quest Waikato Style! (Online Bboard game)

Hey guys, I’ve been speaking with Alista about the possibility of running a messageboard game of Mafia - thematically tweaked for a Quest Waikato setting.

If you’ve never heard of Mafia, it’s a great little mind game where there are members of the mob in a village, and the villagers have to try and work out who the mob members are and kill them before the mob kills the villagers. It’s easily converted into other themes, so I thought I’d try the old sword and sorcery approach.

A basic .SWF file to explain the game is here. For the more advanced, a wiki with rules and stats for the game can be found here.

This is a fun game that only requires a handful of posts every 1-2 days, although you’re welcome to post more. You do NOT have to have intimate knowledge (or indeed any knowledge at all!) about the Quest Waikato gaming system. But if it’s something you’d like to play, please reply in this thread expressing your interest.

Once we have enough interested players, Alista or myself will post a game thread in the Quest Waikato board. So let’s see some replies so we can have a great turnout for the first game! :smiley:

Brief notes on the game.

This is like a cross of the games of "Murder’ and “Poker”. There are no external clues posted, rather it is how players behave in their postings and how they answer questions that tend to give them away. ie it can be a highly psychological game.

Early eliminations will be given a second chance life as the game doesn’t really warm up til after the first few fatalities.

If succesful then we will tweak the game to allow characters such as Fighters, Clerics, Mages, Thieves and maybe Paladins and Rangers.

Count me in, any new weirdness is acceptable till proven otherwise. Like anarchy online, which I just tried… and will be deleting shortly.

Are the last Werewolf discussion & voting threads still up? they would at least give people what the last game was like.

I’m really hoping we get more people this time though - maybe enough for multiple werewolves!

It has come to my attention that this thread is not about a LARP and therefore technically should be in the Chit Chat Forum.

On t’other hand, it’s an on-line game based on an established larp setting. It’s not an exact parallel with the IC forum on Mordavia, being a couple of threads etc. etc., but it still has a reason to be here.

Compare the IC threads in Stargate and Saint Wolfgang’s Vampire Hunters.

There is talk of giving experience gained in this game into the Live Role campaign. Therefore it may be part of the Live Role Play campaign carried out online.
