Live Combat Training/Info session

Hi everyone,

This Saturday, 10 October, at 2pm Mat is going to be running a workshop on live combat (also known as boffer) safety and techniques. Topics to be covered include:

Weapon Safety - is the weapon fit for purpose, perished latex, core exposed?
Combat Safety - Pull your blows, Head Hits
Armour/Costume Safety - can my Chaos spiky bits really be made from steel?
Weapon Maintenance - bring some talc!
Armour Maintenance - some oiling goes a long way!
Game Rules - types, body hits, calls etc.
Combat techniques - weapon & shield, two weapons, reach, rules dependant
One on One Combat - duelling
Mass Combat - chaos
Spells in combat

This is designed to be an entry-level workshop with plenty of hands-on opportunities. There will be a mass-combat demo so participants can get a small taste of what it’s really like to be set at upon all sides by foes with swords!

This is an all-weather event and will be run rain or shine. The forecast is looking grim so please dress warmly, and for the elements, and bring clothing that you don’t mind getting some mud on. If you’ve got kit/costumes you’d like to try armour with please bring it as some different types of armour will be available to test out. If you’ve got foam weapons please bring them.

The doors open at 2pm and we plan on running for a few hours. Drinks at the local afterward if anyone is inclined.

This event is totally free, and we encourage you to bring people you think might be interested. The more the merrier. The location is Karori and the address will be supplied upon RSVPing either by PM or by email at nzlarpswellington at gmail dot com.

Hope to see you there!

Due to extreme flooding of the spaces we were going to use for combat training, we need to postpone this event. I’m so sorry, and sorry to do it at such short notice. We were optimistic that we could weather the storm, but I came home to find my yard under several inches of water.

We’ll announce the rescheduled date ASAP. Thanks for your patience!

Shakes a fist at the sky

Shame, hopefully I’ll be able to make the next one, I’ll need all the practice I can get for St.Wolfgangs.

Yeah, we’ve just had a nice bout of hail up here this morning and the ground is spongy and muddy.

We’re meeting at the Southern Cross at 2pm instead to cover some of the topics Mat was going to discuss.

If you could bring your dagger and short sword I’d be grateful. It’s likely what my character will carry.

Want a lift into town? I can pick you up at 1:45, say?

Cool, see you at 1:45 then. I’ll just be waiting outside for you so come down when you’re ready.
