Listing of Current Ongoing Larp Campaigns in New Zealand

This is the collected list of all currently active larp games in New Zealand that I know about, prompted by a post in the support forums. Any games that I have not mentioned, please point me in the direction of the relevant information and I will be more than happy to update the list. I would like to make it as complete as possible in order to live up to the thread name.

I hate to sound like a kibitzer, but I know bloody well that there are Larp games running in Wellington, which are not mentioned here. They aren’t organised through this forum, so it’s reasonable for them not to be mentioned, but the title of this thread is still misleading, as is the comment:

Perhaps a caveat that it’s a list of larp games organised through Diatribe… but that doesn’t really cover Hamiltonia… AARGH.

You’re right. I’ll amend that to “active LARP games that I know about”

I would dearly love to be able to list all the games in New Zealand on this list, regardless of their affiliation with Diatribe or nzLARPS but I can only post what I know.

Can you point me to where I can find out about the Wellington larp games?

I think if a game wants to be mentioned on this list that badly it should make itself known rather than complain about being overlooked, Anna is not the all-seeing eye of Odin and nobody really asked her to put the time into this. It’s pretty comprehensive as-is and it’s not like it can’t be updated.

I notice that for all the kvetching about it, Cath, you didn’t bother to post a link to the information yourself so Anna doesn’t have to trawl through Google?

Also can we get a sticky on this?

Thank you, Anna.

It’s not a question of who wants to be on the list. It is a question of truth in advertising - two different things.

I did not post a link because I learned about it socially, voice to ear, while helping with some ad hoc costuming. Some things do happen outside of the Internet. But you might want to consider KapCon, first home of both Couples and The Flight of the Hindenburg, the which information can be found at http://www.nzrag.com, a flourishing forum for gaming related issues.

Thank you for expressing your concerns, Brian.

If it happens only in Wellington by word of mouth how can she be faulted for not knowing it was around?

I think a simple “Could you add information about X Wellington game?” would have come off as quite less abrasive.

She can’t, but she originally said it was a list of everything. It was actually a list of everything she knew of. Which is what Catherine means by truth in advertising.

It’s a worthwhile point that we’re not aware of all larps running. I think Anna got that and it wasn’t meant meanly or taken that way.

That’s cool. I just hated seeing someone put an hour of their time into something like this without being asked, and then seeing the first response basically be heckling some aspect of it without acknowledging that it was still a solid effort.

Fewer words like “bloody” would have made the tone a bit less derisive

It is somewhat disheartening to try and do something useful, and to be made to feel like I’m being accused of deliberately trying to exclude people. I’m sure it was only because it was late at night and misunderstandings happen.

I guess my other mistake was forgetting to mention in my description for the list that it was a list of ongoing games/settings. You’ll notice I didn’t mention any Auckland one-off events in there either.

I would like to find out more about these Wellington larps. Do you think the LJ community “wellingtonrpg” might be a good place to ask? I tried looking around the Wellington-centric NZRaG forum but didn’t manage to find anything.

Nice list,
Thanks Anna.

What we need to do now is to get it on the www.nzlarps.org site as well.
So if peolpe need to find regular running games, plus the calander they can do so there. A fourm is not an easy place for people to find things.
I would like to find out more about these Wellington larps. Do you think the LJ community “wellingtonrpg” might be a good place to ask? I tried looking around the Wellington-centric NZRaG forum but didn’t manage to find anything.
There’s only one ongoing Larp that I know of, and that’s invitation only. (Damn them for taking people away from my birthday party!)

For the rest, the Larp scene is usually focused around one-off games with a large attendance pool, like Flight of the Hindenburg, which I think people are happy to advertise here when they occur. I think there’s someone thinking about setting up a campaign fantasy larp, but it isn’t off the ground yet.

So yeah, Wellington Larps are a little less conducive to a big directory, lovely as the one that Anna just made is. On the plus side, the tabletop scene is really hopping.

Anna, it was not my intent to make you feel bad about the lovely work you had done. I was just concerned with the title, and forgot to comment on the positive aspects as well.

Y’know, I completely forgot about that. Monsieur le Presidente? What’s your wife’s current last name? :stuck_out_tongue:

Weller, by her choice 8)

On the day of the wedding at the hotel we stayed at for the honeymoon, she was asked if she wanted to sign the register for us using my surname - and ever since she just can’t stop.
