Laser printer for use at games

Would having a laser printer at game events be useful

I’ve been offered an HP Laserjet 5L for free. It apparently works, but the toner is getting low.

It’s small enough to truck around to games and, in conjunction with a laptop, and appropriate paper, could provide a way for GMs to create ingame documents as the game is occurring.

Would this be useful to anyone who is running/planning to run a game ?

Replacement toner is apparently good for 2500 pages, and cost $107.00 new and $60 “remanufactured”.

The results of the poll can be considered by the committee at the next meeting (i.e. is a straw poll only, not binding)

Refill Toner will kill the printer, thats not something we want to do. Refills also produce a much lower quality.

Old HP’s like this just keep going and going and going.

I can get the toner for $99 from Tech Pac (NZ HP supplier), who say the RRP is $126 incl.

This is probably a good idea for certain events (it would need to be booked and checked out like with other gear such as the generator etc) and of course the price is right. The toner should last for ages since not much in-game printing done. I think we can afford $100 to buy a new toner cart.

Of course it should not be used for any bulk printing, we have the other printer for that (which prints more cheaply too) but it would be useful for certain at-game tasks (mordavia could well have benefited from it)

I’m sure theres a 100 uses for a resource like that…

My thoughts exactly.

On a related note, I’m trying to source a nasty old computer (that runs Win 2000 + or Linux) that we can set up with some software to make nice documents. I’ve got a screen (15"), so just need a keyboard, a mouse and an old PC and we’re in desktop publishing business !
