Larpers Wanted for Sky TV Commercial

I’ve had this email turn up in my mailbox.

[quote]Good Afternoon.

My name is Andrew Burfield and I am working on a Sky HD television

commercial for the Auckland-based production company Robber’s Dog

Films. As part of this commercial we are looking for a variety of

Reenactors and/or LARPers from various time periods/themes.

The details for the commercial are as follows:

Shoot Days:

Thursday 29 May

Friday 30 May

Saturday 31 May

Sunday 1 June

Monday 2 June

Tuesday 3 June

The commercial involves moving “inside” the TV and seeing various TV

shows, including scenes of battle, etc. We are looking for a variety

of reenactors from different periods to take part in the general chaos

and bedlam. Reenactors would be used on a couple of the days at a

studio in Auckland. All artists appearing in the commercial would be

paid (sorry I don’t know what the casting fee is at present).

We would like to run a casting session at our premises on Ponsonby

Road, Auckland, involving videoing and photographing interested people

wearing their costumes/gear so that the director can select the people

he would like to use. We would like to get this happening ASAP –

hopefully this week. The casting session can be run in the afternoon

and evening to work around those that have jobs during the day.

Alternatively if this is difficult I can come out to meet groups

somewhere else (for example your usual meeting place?)

and conduct the casting session there.

Please pass this along to any members of your club who may be

interested and ask them to get back to me as soon as possible. Also

do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Andrew Burfield

My experience is that commercials pay well. Important to note that they’re shooting over Queen’s Birthday Weekend. Does anyone want to take leadership on this? Alternatively I’ll call him tomorrow and set up some expectations.

Ask what the theme is that makes larpers suitable.

By any chance did this guy do a movie at Carrington polytech called “SPQR” in 2000?

OK, very interested in this!

Likely interested, depends on times.

I know Andrew, he’s a mate of a mate.
He’s probably included larpers because he knows theres a fair bit of people who do both larp and re-enactment. He’ll also know that we have good kit and think that if acting is involved larpers are going to be comfortable with it.

Yeah Its just his name was familiar and none of us here at my place can remember from where. hell i’m keen too

I didn’t see this bit, which sounds cool:

I might be interested in this actually.

So how are we going to do this? Shall we apply as one grou, or is everyone making individual contact?

Just spoke to Andrew on the phone and got a bit more insight.

He does want us to turn up with costumes but he’s happy for people to present themselves in more than one category.

I think someone needs to take leadership here and arrange to present as a group. I could support this but I can’t lead it. I’m keen to present in a group, but I’m away most of next week.

Follow up an acting gig without my knowledge, will you?!

I most certainly do want to be involved. Have we got timetables for shoots over that week?

If someone doesn’t take leadership on this I think it will have to be done individually.

Alright. I might as well take the helm if no else has spoken up.

For those wishing to be involved, throw me a PM so that I can get some numbers.

Yeah interested too. Here are some more details…
Can we raid nzLARPs for gear?

xL

Hi Lucy,

I can provide some more details for you regarding the shoot.

The standard fee for extras is $250 a day and I believe we are looking at paying an additional $50 to $75 a day for those providing their own costumes (not confirmed however).

Filming will be at a Studio in Auckland but I don’t know what Studio we’ll be shooting in yet.

The scenario of the commercial is that we are in an enormous green room (which is inside the hero family’s television) where thousands of actors from a multitude of TV shows are sitting about waiting to be called out to appear on the television. So we’re basically looking for anything and everything.

Feel free to post my email address so that interested parties can email me photographs of them in their various garb.

Regards,

Andrew Burfield

Hi Lucy,

Further to my last email, I can now tell you that we would be filming in a studio in Mt Wellington, in Auckland.

Andrew Burfield

Heck that’s good money. Sign me up.

Yeah and it should be good fun too. I contacted him tonight. Can we organise a meet at Mikes before we go so we can raid what fits on who? Che, Lucy.

Count me in too…

Sounds like fun. What date is the audition?
