Larp Workshops on Sunday

Anna and I were discussing the possibilty of running a few Larp related workshops on Sunday while Serenity is running.

Ideas include:
Making foam weapons/shields and detail/painting effects.
Latex mould casting - e.g. elf ears
Larp fighting training
Leatherworking
Sewing

Any other suggestions for what people might be interested in?
And would people even be interested in attending a workshop?
And would there be any volunteers to run a workshop on a certain topic?

Ok, I’m guessing that with over 40 views of this thread and no comments, that there is no interest in workshops?

I am interested in attending a workshop on any/all of those topics, but I’ll also want to play in the serenity game. So is the convention aiming to get involved with LARP games, or to improve and upskill us who already play?

Is the overlap of timing unavoidable? What about meal break workshops? Or rather than workshops, which has a expectation of getting involved and hence takes longer. How about a presentation (lecture?) of say half an hour over meals/drinks, to give an overview of the topic, and advice on where to find more help/supplies. And to register for further workshop in the following weeks for those who are really keen.

When I first heard of the convention, I sort of expected it to be a series of seminars talking about these sorts of things, but then all these games keep being mentioned, and I wonder if too much is trying to be fit in? Or is it just me that wants to do it all? (Must admit I haven’t looked at the timetable in a while, so my impressions could be wrong.)

The idea behind Chimera is to model it on gaming conventions such as Battlecry or America’s Cup, only replace tabletop and wargaming with larp - so the idea was to run games rather than seminars.

That said, Scotty has volunteered to put together workshops to run alongside games for those who would prefer workshops to gaming.

If there is any interest, I’m happy to run an introduction to armouring.

Saturday from 2-5pm seems good to me as I don’t feel like vampires, orc ball or trying to remember Italian names

I’m willing to discuss other time slots, but I will be too loud for the evening.

Also, not during Serenity

EDIT: does anyone know if there is a whiteboard available?

i’d come along to an armouring workshop in that timeslot

i’ve been wanting to pick your brains for a while now derek - count me in

Damn it…I’m always interested in upping my metal work skills (i have just finished getting my ARC and MIG welding tickets) any chance of shifting the armouring?

I’ll come to that workshop. It’s one of those things I’d be interested in trying but just not knowing where to start.

I’d be up for attending workshops! I’m always interested in up-skilling in anything.

I’m guessing the problem with Sunday workshops is everyone wants to play Serenity?

fingers crossed

I’m either GMing on Sunday, or have my own anniversary to attend. Workshops on Sat would be best.

Saturday is already pretty chocker with stuff. I’d rather not add workshops there to the mix at this stage.

For future events, would people prefer:

  • Workshops concurrent with games
  • Games one day, workshops on another
  • A whole separate one day event dedicated to workshops?

We’ve had a handful of people show interest in larp workshops on the Sunday. Anybody keen to run anything for them?

Chris mentioned he might be interested in setting up to do osteopathic treatment in a side room on the Sunday morning last time he was here. I gave him Anna’s contact details.
