Interesting, licensed larp weapons. These seems to suddenly be available all over the web.
I wonder who they’ve got manufacturing them? They remind me a little of Eagle Flex, an Indian producer.
Good lord but those are reasonably priced. I guess I know what to get Tigger for his birthday
Really? The Norse sword (AKA an “Alric Adventurer” on other sites) I just ordered worked out to be $90, including postage from Europe.
OTOH, they’re certainly cheaper than the Camilicals…
Interesting to see a fairly large producer of non-larp-related equipment begin to make larp weapons. That seems like a sea change in the larp “industry”. It’s happened to some extent before with Ex-Caliber (which was made by a South African producer of body armour) and IdV (a spinoff from a German engineering company), and this seems to extend the trend. We’ve seen Nerf (owned by Hasbro) making awful larp-like swords. I wonder if Windlass will be followed in making real larp weapons by some major manufacturers, like Hasbro? Big companies could get these things made cheap in developing countries. Also, a company like Windlass with a highly developed distribution network can get these products in front of all the customers they already get their metal weapons in from of. Which is why they’re suddenly everywhere on the internet.
It’s doubly interesting that they’re doing it under license for a film/game property. They’re not published larp rules for Conan, but they’re making larp weapons.
It might yet be the potential for profit in the commercialisation of the weapons/armour/costume/props aspect of larp that cause companies to drive larp mainstream (as opposed to publishing larp rules, for example, where the market is limited to GMs). We could see surges of gear following film releases, just like the toy market currently sees figures after films.
Wargod is Hayden Blackburn, he was operating out of Kihikihi… mostly sells steel guff. I did trial a Windlass dagger once for Hayden but the latex delaminated on the first night. Not to say that was a representative sample however!
Are you sure it was a Windlass dagger?
Wargod used to sell Eagle Flex, the Indian manufacturer I mentioned. They had quite bulky, simple-looking designs. Might have been one of those?
Could have been, it was a very simple dagger, big fat leaf blade.
i thought windlass only did steel(which they do fairly well at good prices) ,though i could be wrong
and wow wargod are doing larp now? the more you know i guess, i got a GDFB gambieson off them once…worst gamby ever… now collects dust in my wardrobe
They seem to have branched out now. Their website has a larp weapon page:
I got boots from wargod for wolfgangs years ago,.so yeah he has been doing larp gear for years.
