LARP Location - Southdown Freezing Works, Mt Wellington

Hi guys.
A while ago I remember seeing that Southdown had been used as a location for a LARP (think it was Pacman?) and was wanting to know if you need to get any permission from someone to use it and if so who do you contact?

they were advertising it as a venue on trademe a while back. It might be worth trying to get in touch with them that way. I think it was listed under airsoft from memory

They have two areas.
The area Pacman used is $100 minimium then per head.
The other area is much larger. $200 flat fee

The number on the ad goes to Joe, the caretaker.
All bookings through him, pay cash only.

Nobody got any firm contact details?
I can’t find anything on trademe.

Hey Scotty… just took a look at your Airsoft stuff. Looks like a lot of fun. How do I find out more?

does spookers rent out any part of their venue?

I seem to remember looking in to using it for my 21st. You can have dinner there, but it’s fairly expensive.

I’ve talked to them about it before, and not really no. They even ask guests not to dress up (this way you can tell who works there and who doesn’t, and it shows that their standard is very high). You can give them a call during the day and talk to them about your idea - Phone: 09 2919002.

Well, I guess people won’t be using it in the forseeable future

Unless some one runs a post apocalypse style game…, last night we could see the whole thing from my house, the flames easily reached twice as high as the top floor and it looked like it might even have hit one of the neighbouring buildings. Their still wetting down the hots spots now.

After its had a while to sit and stop burning (and weakened parts to fall away), I think it’d have a lot of potential for certain settings. Although of course it’ll probably be months before anyone should even try going in there at all.

EDIT: Ok, from what I’ve read on the AirSoft Auckland forums, it looks like this place is basically destroyed beyond use, and would probably be horrendously unsafe for pretty much anything.

It’s amazing that we got to do what we did there before it was gone.

Including shoot a few scenes for Kelp, which I’ll be flashing around here before long.

I was out at Awhitu at an NMC when this place burned down and I’m pretty sure that this was the bright orange smoking glow on the horizon.

there was, but that may have been the metal foundry,. which isn’t to far from Awhitu

R[/quote]Yeah, I was told it was the steel mill that’s a few kms away. Two things would back that up: One, I noticed it on Friday, and I don’t think the fire started until Saturday. Two, the location of the glow, and the mill in the day coincided (as in, it looked like the glow was located in the same spot as the steel mill).

Nah, I’ve been there before, I know what the steel mill looks like. I’m pretty sure this was actually further left of the steel mill and only there Saturday.
