Yes, really:

(Fred L Pelton, the creator of this game, died in 1950. However, he did leave something behind: in addition to his interests in archeology and occult science, he was an H P Lovecraft fan, and wrote A Guide to the Cthulhu Cult)

Awesome.

People’ve been larping in some form for ages though. In the 13th century, the nobility of France were mad about King Arthur stories, so the kings of France would invite all their noble mates around for feasts and tournaments, during which they would assume the persona of one of the knights of the round table. This was covered in my Arthurian lit paper, and Ryan posted a historical citation somewhere on this forum as well.

Larping: not actually a weird modern thing.

Didn’t Marie Antoinette have a whole French village built so she could pretend to be a milkmaid?

Page 56 has a cool article on full body casting. The model stands behind a fine transparent curtain while the sculptor works on the sculpture. I suppose that is so he isn’t overcome with lust…

And lo I saw it in the coffee section of Pak n Save this week.
