Knightshade: Circle of Sorcery @ Chimera 09

Thanks to everyone for signing on to what I’m sure will be a very enjoyable game. Chimera 09 marks the one-year anniversary of Jared’s Knightshade: Realms, and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support. If you’re new to Knightshade, then a hearty welcome! We hope you enjoy both ours and the miriad of other games on offer. We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone there.

So, without further ado…

ATTENTION ALL REGISTRANTS FOR KNIGHTSHADE @ CHIMERA
(and those still wishing to register)

It’s time to organise character submissions!!! Due to the nature of this particular game, there are a few variations to character creation, and a few points to make you all aware of. THIS IS IMPORTANT, SO READ IT TWICE!!

“Nature of this game” you ask? “Why, yes” I answer - due to the intent of Chimera 09, this game is designed to be a one-off event, seperated from the current major story arcs. I’ll be honest - that’s probably not going to happen. BUT, I do need to make it abundantly clear that previous in-game knowledge will have no impact or relevance to the events about to unfold.

The next point to be aware of is that this game will feature four factions. Three of these factions, known as the Mage-college factions, will be the character-base envoys made up of those who have opted to play their own generated character. The fourth faction, which shall henceforth be known as the the “Vagrant”, is for those who are more interested in what would normally be considered crewing, or otherwise want to be invloved but don’t want to play their own/a specific character role. All factions will have their own plots, agendas, and goals, so don’t think you’d be missing out whichever way you choose :smiley:

On a similar note, in-game experience also needs to be factored. While we’d love everyone to just play their beloved existing characters, this would obviously give some players a huge advantage over others. So, to mitigate this and put everyone on a more level playing field, the following additions will apply to ALL characters for Chimera 09;

(NB; this only applies those who wish to be part of the Mage-college factions. Those wishing to play as part of the Vagrant will have characters created for them)

New characters will have 16cp to spend for character creation, and may purchase secondary advantages. (This deviates from the normal 12cp and “primary advantages only” restriction). Also, new characters will have double the starting razu (coinage) to purchase gear and equipment. This is after extra income sources such as professions and nobility.

Existing characters may be submitted, so long as they are not worth more than 16cp, ie a character that has not earned and spent more than 4cp after creation. If your character is worth less than 16cp, you may add to them the difference in CP to bring them up to par. Also, if you have less than double your starting razu in gear, you may spend the difference on further equipment.
If your current character has more than 16cp spent, but you still want to play them, I would suggest making a ‘clone’ of them, as if it were a new character (as above).
All existing characters submitted will need both a “before” and “after” included, se we can easily track the adjustments.

In all cases, characters should be made to one of four archetypes, though obviously how you do that is up to you. The archetypes are Warrior, Rogue, Mage, and Healer. These archetypes represent the character spaces available. There are limited numbers of each, AND limited numbers per faction - so get your character in quickly to secure your desired spot!

Additionally, there will be CP awarded, just like any other game. For those that survive (and there’s never a guarantee :wink:), new characters will need to be adjusted from the additional creaton rules if you wish to carry them into the regular campaign (and hopefully you do!), while existing characters will simply benefit from a bit of extra CP and story. I will discuss this with individual players afterwards.

All characters should be sent (preferrably as a word document) to knightshade.larp@gmail.com. If you have any questions about creating your character, concepts or ideas you wish to discuss, or even just questions about Knightshade - please don’t hesitate to ask :slight_smile: If you wish to play the Vagrant, please email anyway, stating this as your preference. For all discussion, please use the Knightshade-specific threads.

“So, traveller, you have answered the summons of the College Masters? Very well, then, very well. Just put your name down here then, and I’ll forward it on to the Dean of Adminitsration. There’s records to be kept, accounts, all that malarky. Man makes more work for himself than he finishes, if you ask me, but still, best to keep him thinking he’s in charge. Still, Master Garron is the one you’ll be dealing with… or was it Master Kegar? Randolf? Ah well, it’s of no matter… Just put down where you’re staying, so we can contact you easy enough, and don’t leave town - as soon as we have enough of you, we’ll be wanting to get you away pretty quickly…”

FOR THOSE PLAYERS INTENDING TO JOIN THE MAGE-COLLEGE FACTIONS

If for whatever reason you need to borrow gear - specifically weapons - you can either try the Chimera 09, Gear, or Knightshade forums here on Diatribe, or failing that email me asap (perhaps along with your all-important character sheet) so that I can make arrangements to find said gear for you.

Otherwise, GET THOSE CHARACTERS IN!!! - It’s the only way to secure your spot :smiley:

ADDITIONAL INFO ON CHAR CREATION

With regard to secondary advantages, the current rulebook states;

“When purchasing new advantages, you cannot advance a particular line of advantages more than one at a time i.e. you cannot purchase Noble and Greater Noble at the same time. In such cases, you must play at least one game before advancing that line of advantages again – even if you meet all other requirements.”

For the game at Chimera 09, this rule will not apply - so you may purchase advantages in the same line at once, ie Lore Magic and Adept Lore Magic, Sneak and Sap, etc

"Ahhh, three signatures so far, but I see there are a few more of you loitering outside the door there. C’mon, don’t be shy, no sense standing out there in the cold. The more of you the better, we’ve had a report in describing no less than 6 different creature sightings that need looking into. Bound to be something interesting out there, but safety in numbers and all that. So get yourselves in here and put your names down, and the sooner you’re all done the sooner you can get down to the Raven for a pint or two, eh?

“Excuse me, Administrator? I’ve just had this missive from one of the border patrols, seems that the creatures have all met up and are now on the move…”

"What’s that then? Hmmm… yes… sounds like this Captain Darius knows what he’s on about…
“Right you lot, looks like these… things have stopped hangin’ about for whatever. The Captain has suggested they may have just been waiting for all their number to show. Now that’s done, looks like they’re on the hunt for something. He’s keeping an eye on them, but right now we need to get you lot signed and off as soon as possible. Get your names down and go get your gear…”
[ul][/ul]

(Read; All Vagrant spaces are currently full…)

MORE CRAZY UPDATES

If, for whatever reason, you’re a bit nervous about making your own character, or the rules aren’t making enough sense, heck even if you’re just feeling lazy, please email us - knightshade.larp@gmail.com - and tell us vaguely what you’d like to play, and we can generate a character for you. Maybe even give you a short (very short) background to set you on your merry way. This way you get a character based on your own concept, but without the worry of paperwork.

For instance;

[You] “Dave, you fantastically handsome and charismatic devil you, I’d like to play some sort of warrior-thing with a big beaty stick and loads of armour that yells at passers by like an ADHD gorilla with the mother of all hangovers”

[Me] "Sure thing, grateful player-type person, how does this sound;

“First, we’ll make you a Cluagh beastie, and lets say you really are some sort of mutant gorilla thing thus satisfying your obvious simian fetish…”

[You] “Woohoo! OOK!!”

[Me] “Next, we’ll give you Cannibalism and Warped Features. Ok so you can’t talk properly, but if anyone makes fun of that you can freakin’EAT THEM…”

[You] “Yay! NOM!!”

[Me] “We’ll give you a point of Tough, just because you are, and let’s give you Profession; Artisan (Armourer) cause you’re big and dumb, but not necessarily stupid - and it means you can fix the Medium Armour you’ll be wearing…”

[You] “Oooooh, shiny!”

[Me] “And as promised, your beaty stick - one Battleaxe, and you’re good to go…”

+ =

“How does that tickle you?”

[You] “Yay thanks Dave, now I only have to worry about costuming, but that’s loads of fun!”

Obviously the actual conversation won’t be quite like this - but the point is to get you all intothe action and having fun! So, if this sounds like your thing, please email us asap! :smiley:

Of course, actual gorillas are quite peaceful…

Pre-generated characters
For all those players signed up for Circle of Sorcery at Chimera but who have not submitted a character, pre-generated characters will be available shortly (hopefully tonight or Tuesday 11/8/09).
You may pick from these if you wish.
If you won’t pick one, we will assign one to you.
We will start assigning characters after the 14th of August, so if you want to choose or create your own, then please get it in now!
Cheers

Character submitted for inspection SAH!

Please note, if you are down for crew, don’t worry about pre-generated characters, you are sorted already!

And jut a reminder, if you have a character to submit, you have 16CP rather than the normal 12CP. We’re looking for a tougher player group for this game!

OK

With less than a week to go, we desperately need to finalise your characters for the upcoming game at Chimera. At this point I still have 8 people who have not chosen/submitted a character. For your perusal, my trusty assistant Jared has created these pre-genertaed beings for you to select and embody, so hopefully there is something to suit!

With these characters, there is not necessarily a limit to any given one - so there could be several Iltherin Priests for example. If you could please get back to me asap with you FIRST CHOICE, that being what you’d most like to play, and SECOND CHOICE just in case a few too many people pick the same thing.

Also, due to a lack of response there is still TWO positions on the Vagrant, so first in first served!

============================

Briefly; each race does have some costuming requirements, as described below. We’ve also noted in brackets what they’d be called in other systems, so you have a clear idea of what to aim for - but ultimately half the fun of playing a character as Knightshade is creating your own look! (As long as it’s still obvious what you are…)

The featured races;

Iltherin (Elves) – metallic highlights in skin tone, pointed (elf) ears. Every Iltherin also displays a feather about their person, be it an actual feather or a stylised representation ie a brooch, beltbuckle, etc.
Skor (Uruks/Orcs) – green, blue or black skin, prominent canines, pointed ears. Skor are tribal warriors and display primitive iconography.
Sylvir (Stayrs) – goat legs, forehead horns, pointed ears.
Stonekin (Rock Dwarves) – stone coloured skin, clan tattoos.
Wilding (Dryad/Treefolk/Treants) – look like plant like humanoids.

The characters;

Iltherin Wizard
Self exiled from his kind to study “human” magic, the mage is forced to take mercenary contracts to support himself and his studies. Opportunity can knock at any time though, and any chance to learn something should be grasped.
(Iltherin Mage, powerful caster, some knowledge)

Iltherin Priest
Dedicated to the Aethyr and preservation of life, the priest has come to aid any in need of his talents in the dangerous wilderness.
(Iltherin Healer, Magical healing, Aethyr powers, well equipped)

Skor Shaman
A powerful caster of spells, the shaman ultimately seeks balance in all things, but for now must accept the task of learning the ways of this world and others.
(Skor Mage, durable, powerful magic)

Stonekin Cleric
This hardy adventurer has come down from the mountains seeking fame and fortune, and even has a handy spell or two - for the right price…
(Stonekin Healer, durable, some magic, well equipped)

Skarri Sorcerer
Even death hasn’t stopped your quest for knowledge. In fact, it seems noone has really noticed your actually dead… Certainly not the other students or the lecturers at any rate…
(Skarri Mage, moderate magic, skilled…)

Sylvir Conjurer
Taking a break from your studies, sometimes it’s good to get back to the forest and just let loose with that pent up magic. That and the coin will be handy for the chicken races next week…
(Sylvir Mage, moderate magic, well equipped)

Wilding Sorcerer
Sometimes it’s near impossible to learn anything in this place, so a trip out into the wilds where you can be amongst your tree-kin is most certainly in order, and you’re always in need of the coin-things. Perhaps there will be something of interest to learn as well…
(Wilding Mage, durable, moderate magic)

As of this post there is ONE SPOT REMAINING in the Mage Factions, and that’s for a much needed healer. Note that any of the characters still listed above can be played as such with some clever spell selections.

For anyone thinking of playing Skor but put off by the need to acquire makeup, I will have several sets of green ear tip prosthetics, spirit gum, and enough green makeup to cover a few people.

If you are playing a magic user of any sort at this game, your spells have been sent to you via email. Put them in a spell book and learn the foo out of them.

Hi all PLAYERS,
Just a quick reminder that if you have potions, symbols, books, or other misc effects, you need to bring the phys rep. with you. If you don’t have it then you don’t have it, simple as that.

Some weapons and some gear have been promised to some players due to dire circumstance. If you have been told you will be provided with stuff then don’t worry, that is ok.

I will bring copies of character sheets and copies of the spells for spell books so if you forget something you won’t be totally stuffed but make sure you bring your gear!

IF you are really really stuck, then let me know ASAP. Don’t overlook the $2 shop either, as they are awesome prop places!

Cheers and see you on Saturday!

Jared
