GM Wanted! – Operation: “Happy Birthday, Now Get on the Ground!”

I’m looking for someone interested in GMing and test-running a comedy LARP I’ve been developing! Mainly due to the fact that im away at Kiwiburn during Kapcon 2027

The premise:

A bank robbery has gone spectacularly wrong. Inside, three robbers are trying to control a group of unpredictable hostages. Outside, the police are attempting to negotiate a peaceful resolution, despite their competing agendas and questionable competence.

Think Brooklyn Nine-Nine meets The Rookie , with plenty of improvisation, secret objectives, misunderstandings, and escalating chaos.

About the game:

  • Players: Approximately 12
  • Duration: 2.5 hours ish?
  • Format: Comedy LARP with two separate rooms communicating by radio
  • Style: Character-driven, improvisational, and full of ridiculous situations

I’ve already developed the GM notes and character sheets. I’d love someone else to take the reins and run an initial playtest, helping me identify what works and what could be improved.

Experienced GMs ideally, but people who are wanting to try GMing for the first time are both welcome.

Isn’t Kiwiburn the week after Kapcon as usual? It’s later dates this year, 27 Jan - 1 Feb.
Perhaps you’re doing build crew or something that needs you to be on site more than a couple of days early.

KapCon can absolutely provide two rooms for a 12-player game. And test-running there means being free of the logistics of finding a venue etc.

Is there a timeframe/ time you want this run by? I’m sure people in Dunedin would be interested in playing: we’d just have to find a time amidst the chaos

Not at all. I dont mind who wants to help test. The more people, the more notes i can get back to make it into a more fun game.
