I’m in favour of a larp where a world is created, a set of rules/mechanics is posted (not too many - similar to the way char creation for Wolfgang’s is done) and players submit their chars and stories. From these backgrounds, the story can be formed, and pre-gen characters could be generated for players who don’t want to write up their own characters.
Example: I write an awesome character who had a lost love who she presumes died ages ago. That lost love could easily be turned into a pre-generated character to be given to another player.
I think that by pulling the story from player backgrounds you get something that is rich and meaningful to lots of people, AND gives the writers heaps of stuff to work with. You also wouldn’t have to write character histories and backgrounds, save for those people who wanted pre-generated characters. And even then, you’d be taking concepts from other people’s histories and back-stories.
I’m also keen for a larp to take place in a setting where it’s presumed we know things about each-other so there’s less RP around “oh so how do you do it on YOUR world” which feels (to me) like small talk and gets in the way of the more meaty RP.
As far as genre and setting, what about something like, oh… (this is totally off the top of my head) a zombie apocolypse type setting. We’re all people who have fled into Wellington High to escape some horrors outside. Groups of goths or punks or business men or uni students or what have you. Maybe some people are infected and trying to hide it. Maybe some people got in but their friends are stuck outside. Maybe the monsters try and start breaking in … Something like that would be a little different, eh? Maybe?
