Introduce yourself

Welcome Michelle and see you at Multiverse!

‘Victims, aren’t we all’ - The Crow

pokes head in door

Helllloooooo… My name is Chris, live in Porirua, 29 yrs old, married with 2 cats and a dog. I am very keen to get into “larping”. Very much the noob of noobies.

I’ve started playing DnD with some friends in the last year, I currently DM a 3.5e adventure with 6 pc’s. Always been a big board game player and now i’m hoping to get more into roleplaying with others. Love a good fantasy movie / book, LotR, Feist/Gemmel etc.

Had a good look around, figured i’d sign up and intro myself

Hey Tazzy

And boy do we have an offer for you…

There are actually a few LARPs coming up in Wellington soon for you to try out.

Hey Chris, welcome to the forum, and to larping

The next big event coming up down your end of the country is KapCon, which is the Wellington weekend long gaming convention - there’s a big larp on the Saturday night, and tabletop gaming over the rest of the weekend.

Other than that, keep your eyes on the Wellington forum for what’s coming up, Jackie and her cohorts tell me that they’ve got heaps planned for the new year!

“Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games!”

Hope to see you at some of the big events

Hi Chris,

Welcome!

What the others said…

Its way off but well worth your time… Chimera! A veritable smorgasboard of larp flavours.

Otherwise, if you want to travel up 2010 offers a bunch of cool weekend adventures… lots of fantasy too… and some sci-fi… Multiverse, Serenity, St.Wolfgangs the list goes on… maybe even some Knightshade later in the year.

Cool, you’ve come to the right place to find heaps of interesting new roleplay stuff to experience.

If you fancy doing some of the “live combat” variety of larp, swinging swords around and so forth, then I may yet be able to sneak some more items into the order of latex weapons I’m bringing in. You can see what’s available at paddywhack.co.nz - my supplier is running late on the order, but it’s due to be shipped from Europe any day now.

Well, I already started posting and asking questions so I probably better introduce myself:

I’m Ellen, much to my surprise I’m about to be 31 (and I would like my year back, thank you very much). I moved to New Zealand from the UK about 6 months ago, with my Kiwi husband (together 4 1/2 years, married for nearly 2), and started LARPing pretty much then (though sadly we missed Kapcon due to a family thing), having done some tabletop and lots of drama back home. I’ve played the Book Group (frighteningly like many of the seminars I attended when studying English Literature), was Brangaine in ‘The Black Hart of Camelot’, and Lucy in ‘Masquerade on Fleet Street’, and so far have thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve been involved with and am looking forward to Chimera quite ridiculously much.

I am also into crafts, and hope to press my sewing machine into action in the future making lots more costumes (I borrowed one from an SCA friend for Camelot, and made my own big floofy skirt of floofiness for Fleet Street, with the addition of the corset I wore for my wedding.)

And I spend far too much time on the internet.

lulz

Hey, which character did you play?

I was the bored wife who worked in the hardware store. Bryn’s character was my husband, the builder. My actual husband was playing Alex the Nihilist, and kept going off outside to pretend to smoke. Does that help any?

You must have been in the other session of the game

hello, finally found the welcome thread, names Stephen/Stevie, a no good girl conned me into attending the last wolfgangs which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was shy as hell thus was mute most of the time outside of the gear/props room(that lanky Indian looking dude was me)
oh and I went to primary with the thread starter, damn you still got the Construx set Craig?

-Stevie

-I appologise in advance for my total lack of dictionary.

Good evening~
I thought it would be best if I introduced myself before posting anywhere else, so here I go.
My name is Rosie, I’m currently a student in Auckland going for a diploma in hospitality (So drab, it really isn’t my thing, but I ought to stick it out seeing as the loan was $13,000 -___-’). I eventually plan to get my BA in Japanese, but that is quite a while away yet. In my spare time I tend to roam the internet aimlessly, listen to horrid music that i’m sure you would all class as trash, watch unhealthy amounts of anime and well…That’s about it really…Oh and I play roller derby. ANYHOO…
I’m completely new to LARPing (Please be kind?). I have been meaning to come to a LARP event for quite some time now, but queen procrastinator is me.
I’ve been cosplaying for around 5 years now and I think it’s time that I done something a little…different.
I don’t even know where to begin with this LARPnessness, SOMEONE HALP??? I suppose it would be a good idea to come to a few meets and get to know people, maybe see all the different…err “types”? of LARPS before I actually get involved in any.

So. I look forward to meeting you all at future events~

Before Anna, or one of the organizers pounce on you, I might as well cordially invite you to New Zealand’s LARP convention - Chimera. Check out the boards below or chimera.nzlarps.org/

It’s a great way to meet the old goats, the new entrants, and general riff raff that makes up the core of New Zealand’s LARP community. And it’s a great way to dive head first into the whole experience. I know I enjoyed my first time last year, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself, and don’t forget to take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.

Welcome! And as Slacker says, feel free to sign up for Chimera. It’s a nice way of testing the waters without having to play a character for an entire weekend. It’s a weekend of three hour sessions where you play a different game in each one.

There’s no audience in larping. You gotta just jump in. Don’t worry, we were all in the same situation somewhere along the line!

To get started, have a nosey round Diatribe, click the links, read the threads, look at the photos. See what games are coming up and what sort of game appeals the most to you. Then sign up and give it a go. If you have questions, just ask. Sounds like you might be well up there on the costuming side of things, at least.

Hello, I am the aforementioned Anna and it would be epic to see you at Chimera. It’s a fantastic way to try out loads of styles, games and genres, and meet heaps of the community. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to PM me, I am more than happy to help

Welcome to the community! Pick some thing you like the look of it, and you’ll be greeted by a dozen friendly people who’ll help you get into it!

And May I say my bit and introduce myself. I’m Blair and I am the lead GM of a game called Chrono Continuum. It is a time travel larp with fantasy and sci-fi elements which should be a lot of fun and accessible for a new larper. We have a game coming on the 3rd of July at 5.30 pm.

We have more than enough room for new players and crew, crewing (playing NPCs), may be a good option for someone new to larping. It gives a good idea of what larp and combat is all about without being too heavy or overwhelming. Check out the Chrono Continuum Forums here on Diatribe for more information or ask anyone here if you have any questions  We’d love to help
