Hi Chad,
Welcome to Diatribe. And welcome to the wider community. I can almost guarantee that if you like one larp, you’ll be into others too… its not such a leap from light sabers and blasters to swords and sorcery…

Socery? Cool. I have a couple of Wands.

anyone who reads this, will probably think it’s stupid, or even laugh but… Do we have a Harry Potter Type Larp? That’d be cool haha

Not that i know of - but its a very popular genre overseas.

Not yet, but if you want to think it up, it could be fun…

Hah more government types

We have a few of those in the collective :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to see you here matey and we look forward to seeing you at star wars

What Government Types are there within the realms of LARP…

I can only imagine it would be people from IRD haha

Just your typical government employees

we do have one IRD, we also have a ninja MP in our midst as well as at least one party candidate

This is why I love LARP - all walks of life baby

I’m probably a little late on this post… i see it has 17 pages 0_o
Any way…
I’m actually Cleo from sunny (kind of…) Nelson!
I’m 19, i have one darling daughter (my little Alice from wonderland ( 6 months old) ) and a lovely partner whom i stalked after i saw him working at an EB Games store :stuck_out_tongue: Oh and a cat named Glitter.
I have been acting since goodness knows when, have been to the nationals in a choir (the big sing anyone?), i love zelda and morrowind and have been playing D&D with my partner for about a year now. (although im still not amazing) And between us me and my partner have an awesome d&d dice collection.

This describes my situation quite well… I did know vaguely about D&D with costumes but thats about it… so im pretty new to this. That 20/20 piece was the best bit of television i had seen for ages and i watched 20/20 for that sole reason!

Welcome Cleo.

Nelson is a lovely place. Stunning views of the alps etc.

I think your best bet is attending some Wellington events. They seem to have a very keen group going there and are just establishing themselves.

Your alternatives are to book yourself (and your partner?) a trip up to attend some of the bigger LARP events in Auckland. Saint Wolfgangs is proving very popular, despite what I call a rather intimidating setting. 13th century Europe certainly takes some getting used to, even with the kind of loosely Van Helsing feel.

Chimera, our annual larp convention is also particularly good value. A large number of larps to attend. Its a whole weekend worth and will really set your mind as to the variety of larp forms available.

As for D&D in costume - thats fantasy through and through. Well represented in Auckland, Hamilton and I believe Wellington has the beginnings of something promising too.
Knightshade, Multiverse, Wolfgangs, and Exodus (Wellington)

Of course, if you can gather enough people, theres no reason why you couldn’t run your own game… the forests near Rabbit Island would be a good venue…

Welcome Cleo and welcome Chad

Hello Cleo, welcome to Diatribe and our community! We look forward to seeing you at our events in the future

Unlike a lot of other hobbies where the experience improves vastly over time, I think with LARP, the best games are your very first ones. I still remember the magic of some of my very early games, they were so much fun. Off in the New Zealand bush somewhere, late at night, sitting around a campfire cooking, eating, singing etc… …when the Zombies turn up. Magic

This isn’t to say my recent games haven’t been good, because they have been. But the early games had something special-er.

And we do all love to see some new faces at games. Don’t be shy when you’re coming to events, let us know if you need to borrow anything. Half the people around here will give the shirt off their back to help you get started. The other half are already borrowing our shirts

Ah, the fun of having absolutely no idea what your doing. Great fun indeed…

I once did a trip down to nelson with my school, and sang with their choir in the ā€˜Christs Church’ Chapel… and also attended the ā€˜Big Sing’ a few times with my school aswell.

Holy moly what choir were you with? what choir did you sing with? I’m surprised to see someone on here that attended a big sing  Have you heard of belle a cappella? i was with that choir till i finished school… good fun!

I live right next to the centre of NZ and the maitai they have great bush areas! Although i think that i’d want to be in a couple of larps before i attempt to create my own game… Just like i verry much doubt i could be a gm without a few games first :stuck_out_tongue:
