Father of the 21st century.
aaaah, that explains the google logo today.
Some of Tesla’s More Notable Inventions:
- Practical Radio - The US Supreme Court finally ruled in Tesla’s favor (posthumously) in “Tesla v. Marconi”
- Tesla invented Polyphase electric power - all present day polyphase systems stem from Tesla’s genius!
- Niagara Falls was the site of the world’s first commercial three-phase AC power plant;
- Tesla invented brushless synchronous and induction motors.
- Tesla bladeless turbine and pump
- Wireless electric power transmission concepts
- Wireless Remote Control (Tesla demonstrated a wireless controlled boat 1898!)
- Disinfectant Treatment of Water with Ozone
- Fluorescent Lighting (Tesla lit his lab with these 40 years before they became commercially available!)
- Synchronous electromechanical rectification of high voltages
- Gas-Tube rectification and rectification via corona discharge (foundation of Xerography)
- X-Rays (3 Years before Roentgen re-discovered them!)
…and he died a pauper, after tearing up a contract that would have made him the worlds first billonaire
Also born that day was a man that alot of people forget…a man overshadowed by the myths and legends of Nikola Tesla, The Physist and Inventor:
Nikola Tesla: Complete Nutjob
-Electricuted an fully grown elephant just to prove a point to fellow scientists
-Burnt 4 labratories to the ground accidently killing at least 1 assistant
-Claimed to know how to split the world in half “like an apple”
-Was afraid of women
-Was deathly afraid of germs to the point that it caused him to to spend a good portion of his later life cleaning more than inventing
-Was deathly afraid of round objects to the point of welding spikes to all round objects in his house
WTF? Was he afraid of some reverse Hounds of Tindalos or something?
I believe it was about static. Something along the lines of round objects generating more static which was rather dangerous in his line of work.

Nope, that was Edison trying to “prove” that Tesla’s Alternating Current (AC) was bad, and his Direct Current (DC) was safe.

Maybe he did know. He did invent death rays after all.[quote]

He also advocated that he wasn’t the smartest person alive. When people said that he would say that his older brother had been smarter. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately depending on your outlook) he died in a horse riding accident when Nikola was young.
What ever the truth behind the legend, Nikola was 100 years ahead of his time. Just about everything modern that we take for granted can be traced back to him, or a derivative of his work.

It was BOTH. Tesla actualy responded to that demonstation with a DC version of that to prove that DC was still able to kill an elephant…he then did his famous demo of the “skin effect” (where he sat on an electrified steel plate and shot sparks out of his fingers without dying) and remarked “Even though I can do that, AC is still dangerous, I mearly wish it to be known that both pose a risk but any man can present the facts in such a way to prove their point”
2 elephants died in the AC/DC war…remember that when you turn on the light.
And yes it was both Hughes and Tesla that were afraid of germs.
And yes the round objects thing is understandable due to the static build up in the labs.
But you still can’t say that he was the most well adjusted puppy in the pound.
To quote a favourite movie of mine:
Will Turner: I don’t know if this is brilliance or madness
Jack Sparrow: It is funny how often those two coincide…
