Handy hint for facepaint basecoats

Learn something new everyday.

For those looking for smooth makeup basecoats and despairing of ever managing with a sponge (which with a couple of colours includes me!) I found a new method. You can’t do a straight edge with it to save your life, but it gives a lovely soft ‘airbrush’ type finish. It’s called a Kabuki brush. Now, the ‘official’ ones are ridiculously expensive, but I’ve found that ordinary blush brushes from the chemist work pretty much the same. If you want to try it, get one that looks as close to this as you can.

But hopefully costs half that!

You use it by spraying or lightly wetting the cake of paint . DON’T dip this brush in water, imagine how much water a brush this size would soak up, you’d just wreck your paint. Then load the brush by rubbing it in circles over the paint and do the same on your skin.

I can testify this works really well for people who are new to facepainting. I got a lovely smooth application of paint and a beautiful blend of colours that I wasn’t able to get with a sponge.

Also, it’s -fast-.
