Had a dream/nightmare last night about being completely unprepared for my upcoming LARP. Really scared me, and yet still made me anxious again for the game to come sooner.
Getting A into G today for paints, stencils and cosmetic extras. Bit worried about LARP safe weapon to borrow or purchase.
Anyone know of a short Warhammer/hammer I may borrow or buy? (Short weapon length <50cm long)
Thinking of getting Gunnar warhammer, but would have to deal with international shipping(I’ll keep this a back up)
But was looking at more of a Dwarvern stylized weapon
Naturally have checked out paddywack; then failing that king of swords and godofwar.
Found Thor The Mighty Avenger Foam Hammer. A bit cheesy, but out of context it might be fine. However, doubt its LARP safeness.
So, what do you think?
Stab in the dark, but i would say it is the same as this one, which measures 31inches(79cm).
So sadly too long for what I’m allowed.
For 50cm I think you’ll struggle to find anything pre-made. I mean, I think your everyday household hammer would be about 30cm long. So unless there’s a LARP version of that…
The Teonn restriction really seems to just mean “daggers”. Although I know Cameron (who plays Cornellius in Teonn, not sure of his Diatribe handle) has a LARP safe mallet that he uses (which I think is less than 50cm). I would suggest that “Warhammer” and “under 50cm” might be mutually exclusive. If you’re sold on a Warhammer, then perhaps you need to re-jig your character?
Just my 2c… sorry, not hugely helpful.

Actually, I think the Thor Hammer could be good. I’ll ask Luke (who I think ordered one?), I think the head might be entirely foam so it could actually be LARP safe. And the price is pretty good too, only $27! Might be a goer.
Jon
I do indeed have a 50cm long hammer, but its a home-made jobby. It was whipped up by derek (who was in my character group) on short notice when I mentioned I hadn’t sourced a weapon. Its nice and IC for my Engineer/Mason/Carpenter/Armourer.
Just a warning short weapons are NOT very combat effective except for the odd “Flail and Run” or the “Pop out, One hit and Run” when your not noticed. Either way be quick on your feet. That being said the “Armouring tool/Weapon/Sap” combo item that a short hammer can make is very handy when your already carrying so much extra stuff.
I would be much appreciative on the feedback for any knowledge of the Thor’s hammer, as that’s my cheapest option atm. And since I popped a hundy on cosmetics, i don’t wana do the same again for weapon for buying and shipping thanks Jon.
RE: the 'warhammer’ness I don’t know what else to call it, as I realise most warhammer are two-handed jobbys, but calling it a straight hammer gives people the impression of carpentry.
And lasty, I’m sure there are offensive misgivings for a warhammer, but I’m thinking defensively, and I thought a weapon that can block on 5 out of 6 sides isn’t to bad

I don’t really think the number of sides it can block on is the issue - it’s whether you can get it into place to block .
Jon
I might be stating the obvious here, but if you’re looking for something to block with, I really can’t recommend a shield enough.
(No, I’m not being fascetious.)
I think he’s made a character without those proficiencies Anna (like a Channeller or something). But agree, Shields are made of WIN.
Was just chatting with my friend Luke about the Thor’s hammer, he pointed out that it’s only 30cm long. So really, I think the handle is big enough for your hand. Personally, I’d avoid it.
Jon
2xp to go one handed 95cm weapons. Worth it.

These are $15 at the Warehouse, just saw them today. They are just fine for larping.
XP spent… hopefully. No thumbs up yet on char sheet.
But suffice to say, I’ll be going short weapons and light armour in any case.
I’ll keep Thor’s as back up then (I only need one hand to fit ), I’ll have a look at it today.
I may actualy grab one or two…I feel I need an upgrade (and I have XP to spare for ambidex)
If you felt like flashing up one of those hammers, spray painting it matt black and then dry brushing it silver would really make them look pretty good.
Got one. Smaller then i thought, but still pretty good.
I have some black and primer(grey) car paint at home, think that would that be fine on latex?

I think that these foam hammers are injection moulded foam without latex on them. I believe that a black car primer would be perfect to go over that.
So… I don’t suggest car primer. lol
The foam is so soft, that the paint just cracks and flakes on touch, but yet grippy enough to crack the top layer of foam aswell.
Got rid of annoying writing on it though, so there’s a plus.
Looks no worse, so I’ll try wrapping some leather around the handle, and go with that.
I’m not a professional, so I’m not going to pretend to be one X-P
14 hours weaving (messed up in the middle) and Hammer is done!! Booyah.
Wow. How did you get that marbling effect on the hammer head?
