Had some ink done recently? I have!

I’m just curious as to whether Larpers are a tattooed bunch or not?
Up til recently I wouldn’t have been but my partner is & I thought, why not get some ink done to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary?

This is what I had done yesterday, its on my upper right arm, my partner Helen and her kids know me as the Hairy Bear, so it has meaning as far as to who I am. I believe it has something to do with my personailty if woken too early in the morning…

Jared

get some Betanthen from the chemist - it’ll help you not scratch it when it reaches the itchy peely stage.

Thanks Erin, already on to it.

ok to start the ball rolling, yes I am, i have a stylised eagle on my left upper arm, and a hooded angel on my right arm.

Why hooded?

I have a flower, acquired shortly after I had acquired enough papers to graduate from university. (I didn’t actually get around to the certificate part for a year or so after, but that’s another story.) Been meaning to get a little fishy, actually.

No Tatts…

but I did recently shave my head and have spikes inserted as a mohawk with some silicon inserts down each side.

I’ve had my nose done for a while.

why hooded, because I am naff at drawing faces, the artwork was done by me, but Nadine Bryant in hamilton did the tatt work.

actually i just prefered the image that way and went with it.

I have a moko of a kapowai (dragonfly) in the three life stages, starting with eggs and nymph on forearm and upper arm, and the adult stage on upper arm and shoulder blade.

IMHO, tattoo’s/moko are a mainstream self-expression option in Aotearoa, and this is in contrast with other Western countries (where it is still considered relatively fringe). I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on that.

Is that Nadine at Skinks in Fairfield? I got her to do my first one too.

I designed both of mine. I have a modified celtic-based dragon coiled twice round my right ankle and a band of traditional Tongan and Samoan designs round my upper left arm. This way I have expressed some of both my European and Pacific cultural connections.

I haven’t lived overseas long enough to have formed an opinion either way regarding ordinary people, although from the multitude of tats in movies and music videos it looks like they’re considered an ornament for people in the entertainment industry. Most commonly on a shoulder for guys, or the back of the hips or around the belly button for women.

I went and got this on my neck.

yeah that was her, she and her partner did me a deal since i helped them find some designs for another customer, but that was a while ago.

I’ve had an armband for 5 years, a ring of fire around my left bicep.

I have a blue and orange dragon sitting on diamonds on my back.

Used to have belly piercing too, but not anymore.

The head peircing looks really really painful. Are you planning to keep it forever or is it a more temporary thing? Just wondering about the risk of getting hit on the head since you are a larper.

I THINK he may have been joking.

i have a couple, a butterfly on my ankle cliche sounding i know, but my name means butterfly hence my reason to get it. and a gothic style ankh on my right wrist. I love them, but took a long time to decide what I wanted. would love to draw and design my own tattoo one day

I have been designing my ink for two or three years now. I have stayed on the same design for many months now. So its a case of making a visual of the design, getting my sister to make a painting of it then finding a very good tat artist. Possibly waiting a few months before an actual inking.

I have been planning to get a tat for a long time but the sane part of me always wins.

i want to get a shark winding around the bicep, and a wolf on the shoulder.

Sigh One day

Awwwww! I’ve always wanted to ask someone why they would go to that sort of level. :frowning: Still, somebody in the world has done it! And actually, the body modification website has way ouchier looking things than that.

Just imagine getting hit on the head tho… :open_mouth:

… is “ouchier” a word?

Smart moves, thats what i did with my angel tatoo. it sat in my desk on a piece of paper for four years before i thought “hey why not.”
