Guild Wars 2 players?

Hi everyone, Liz here, occasional larper (gradually becoming a more frequent larper, haha) and long time Guild Wars fan. I’ve heard from a lot of NZ larpers that they play, have played or would like to play Guild Wars 2, and I’d like to organise a guild to help us all gather and find people to play with. If you’d be interested, can you leave either your account name (with number code) or a character’s name here, or PM one to me if you don’t want it displayed for all?

The big question at the moment is, what should we call the guild? I’m taking suggestions (one offered so far is to follow the ‘mythical monster’ theme of the NZ larp conventions) - something appropriately dramatic but also general. Bonus points for references to the setting of Tyria!

For those who aren’t already familiar with it, Guild Wars 2 is a fantasy MMORPG that emphasises co-operation with randoms and supports fairly casual play if you want it, although there are more challenging areas (such as PvP). Arguably its most important feature is that it does not have a subscription fee - buy the game, play forever, enjoy free content updates regularly. If you want to know more about the game (mechanics, lore or community), feel free to ask (warning: I am a fangirl)!

Thanks for doing this Liz!

Is there a mythical monster that changes its form? Could be an obscure reference to larping.

Taniwha would be an obvious choice. They existed in a variety of forms, and some were monsters, whilst others were guardians - similar creatures in a MMORPG. I’m not sure if they exist in Tyria, though

‘Taniwha’ is good  We could use that. Or something including the word.
In terms of Tyrian monsters/mythological figures, there are dragons of the non-Elder Dragon kind that we could reference, but Glint already has canonical heirs, and Kuunavang was based in Cantha which is not currently part of GW2.

‘Tyrian Taniwha’? Hmm…

In addition to the always-handy alliteration, it also possesses a passing phonemic reference to GoT, which IMO is Always A Good Thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Alliteration, reference to shape-changing, reference to NZ, reference to Tyria. Sorted.

Update: this is officially a thing! Address an in-game mail to ‘Ferryn’ if you’d like an invitation to the guild, or PM me here with the name of one of your characters.

Want to play, do not have the game, the time or the PC upon which it will run. :frowning:

A PC to run it is the biggest problem, and one that a lot of people suffer from
The game does go on sale every few months, so if you find yourself able to run it, keep an eye out. We’d like to have you!

Robza if your machine will run SWTOR it will run GW2.

Thanks to Scotts tip am now playing. See you all there.
