Great recommendation if you need a bull whip

I’ve ordered a bull whip to be made for me by Peter Jack aka “The Whip Man”.

I just wanted to give him a plug because a) he’s keeping alive an artform that’s dying out in NZ b) his work is beautiful c) he’s absolutely super-lovely to deal with.

So if you’re ever in the market for a genuine, hand-crafted bull whip (and never say never - until Hamish suggested* I get one I didn’t realize how much I needed one) please consider supporting a local artisan:

(*…said he’d give me “extra points” if my Witch House char wore a bull whip. Hey Hamish, how do I spend those points!)

They seem very pricy for something that wouldn’t get a lot of use unless I’m missing something. Very cool, and it’s great to support a line of work like this, but at 150+++++ it seems a little over the top to me

They are pricey. Absolutely. I’m spending quite a lot of $$ on mine.

I plan on using mine outside of LARPs, for target practice and learning the various cracks and what not.

When I started researching whips, and learning about how dangerous they are I decided I wanted a “proper” one purchased from someone who could teach me how to use it safely. I’m also really keen to meet skilled artisans and know where the stuff I buy comes from.

I know I’m the exception rather than the rule when it comes to what I spend my disposable income on, but I guess for me it’s one of the perks of LARPing/RPing - I’m introduced to things I wouldn’t normally have exposure to, and I get to experience them in a way that enriches my life!

But mostly, I like the idea of people giving shout-outs to craftspeople/companies that they’ve had good experiences with on the off-chance someone else is looking to purchase said item! I always like to buy stuff from people who are recommended to me by trusted sources.

It should certainly make for a nice costume in any case, so you can wear it just for the coolness of it and see what sorts of benefits you can then acquire.
(Um, I don’t mean that just wearing it makes a costume, you probably need to put few more pieces on  )
