Great Lake Medieval Festival 09

Hey guys, do we want to go down and help out at the Taupo Joust much the same way we did last year, have a lot of fun and raise some funds for nzLARPS? The joust will be 31st Jan-1st Feb.

For those who don’t know, the Great Lake Medieval Festival (aka “The Taupo Joust”) has been held in Taupo for the past three years, and has featured a coming together of re-enactment groups from across the country for a weekend of jousting, swordery, feasting, mead, dancing and hanging out in costume. This event is put on for the public, so is a lot more accessible for non-reenactor types than a re-enactor only event.

The event is super cheap to attend, since camping is free onsite and there’s free hotpools, and we get to go in for free since we’ll be helping out. I need 10-12 interested folk, so stick your hands in the air. Last year we got a contingent of about twenty larpers down there, so let’s do the same again this year. Seriously, this thing rocks. You won’t regret it.

See previous threads for how awesome this event is: 2007, 2008

Edited to add: For people with families, this is a really good family event. Lots of people bring their kids.

Sure I am in

I’ll definitely be coming down.

I’ll be going

I’ll be going, but I’m hoping to be fighting this time around.

I’m in

If I’m still in the country at that point, hells yeah! (But no holding of breath)

Definitly interested … and finding out more now …

Hell yeah I’m in. This was awesometastic last year.

If all goes to plan and we can organize a car in the next few months, Raoul the kids and I will all be there too

I’m in! Definitely in!

Huzzah!

Im so jealous! I want joust!

May I just point out that it wasn’t last year…It was this year (2008, The year of Food Poisoning and Brass-Nuts Charlie vs Graham)…last year was the robin hood year :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll probably be heading on down with you fine folk (and besides I have to see the seige weapon guy about not getting my plans in the mail), and I’ll try to drag Wendy with me again  And will probably be able to help out a bit again.

Its always a good way to spend a weekend.

I just put in a leave aplication for this is well. Yay Im coming this year.

I was speaking to Nic Harrison, the organiser of the joust today, and he has invited nzLARPS to help with two projects.

The Gate and Parking
For those who were there last year, it’s the same affair, only over two days instead of three. Taking people’s money, giving them tickets, giving them stickers if they try to leave, conducting parking. We need 10 people.

Knight School
Rather than just have kids going at each other with paper swords, we are intending to set up an adventure. Boys and girls will pay some money, attend Knight School where they will make their own paper swords and cardboard shields, be taught the art of fighting, then embark on a dangerous quest through a maze to fight monsters, storm the castle, over power the brute squad, fight the evil mage who throws water balloons, and rescue Princess Buttercup (who gives them a token, which they can exchange for a knighting and a lollipop from the King). So, we need a bunch of volunteers to help the kids have a stonking great time.

Why help?
Everyone who helps out will have free access to the event, accommodation, breakfast and dinner, as well as entrance to the participant banquet. Some financial renumeration is involved for the gatework/parking, but exact details are to be discussed with those who are interested. We need as many hands on board as we can for Knight School.

It’s a great event, it’s lots of fun, so come along, have fun, help out and raise some money for nzLARPS.

Put me down for helping.

Are they doing a donation to the club this year?

I would love to help out with Knight School. Put my name down.

You can add my name to the list

Yahtzee :stuck_out_tongue:

Hell, a LARP for kids with waterballoons? Man, I’d do that for free
