Ghostbusters

Hired campervan + Nibelungen ray guns + jumpsuits + siren tape + ghost-infested larpers houses = Lots of fun for a day in March?

I’d gladly work with a newbie larp creator to bring this about.
Edit: I’ve written an administrative “recipe” that would make it really easy to organise, just 'cos I was excited…

Haha, could be wicked, keeping the comedy aspect of Ghostbusters would be great too.

i bags being slimer

I’m just realy itching to like tape a whole bunch of old nonworking gear together to make gadgets

Im in

Who You Gonna Call ??

Ahhh is this a trick question?

Surely you mean a hearse?

Of course, hiring one of those and painting it white could be a bit tricky. A stationwagon would look the closest. But if you want lots of players or sleeping in it, then yeah a campervan would be ace. A white one.

Sounds like an awesome modern larp concept. There was a Ghostbusters pen-and-paper roleplaying game from West End Games that I hear was good, but I never played it. It’s probably packed with cool ideas. I think one idea was that the company starts a franchise, explaining why there are Ghostbusters in places other than New York. The players try to run the franchise, make a profit by getting paid for successful jobs, etc.

There are some fan-sites on the web with instructions on how to make the guns and packs, how to make them light up right, etc. I’d be so up for it as a one-day larp, as player or crew. It’s the quintissential modern horror comedy.

So… Ghostbusters… Good idea.

How big a Ghostbuster team would work?

I was thinking that you could stick with the traditional four or maybe six, but then also have player “buddies” who aren’t busters but hang out with them or whose stories interact with theirs. A bit like Buffy’s Scoobies. This would help build the relationships around the team, which was a big part of the movies. It would also allow for a whole lot more players, and they wouldn’t need much in the way of costume.

Movies generally consist of two fairly equal parts, the action line and the relationship line. In Ghostbusters the action was the busting and investigation, but the relationships were the love interests, issues with the villains, etc. The action is what you remember, but the relationships are what make it all feel involving. Mordavia had a bit of a similar approach.

Rather than having the whole thing follow the busters, you could have action happening in multiple venues simultaineously and involving a whole cast of player types. I can think of heaps of interesting stuff that PCs from outside the team could get up to in that setting.

Like Dana (the woman), janine (the receptionist) and the guy rick moranis played in the movie (the accountant guy that lived down the hall from dana)

Also, was thinking that the Ghostbusters could have a whole heap of business cards (that come with the franchise). They could have the IC Ghostbuster details on one side, and on the back they could have NZLARPS details. That way if non-players ask what’s happening you can just hand them a card and point at the back.

A little bit of an immersion reduction, but worth it for the advertising in such a public alternate reality game.

'xactly. They might help, or might end up being part of the problem. All kinds of possibilities. And just as the movie skipped between them in different locations, we could have them all playing at once in different locations. Cell phones would keep us all in contact, and the crew could be spread out too. Driving around would be part of the game, although we’d make sure there was no action while driving for safety.
