Gear Workshop - Wednesday 29 August

Workshop!!!
I’m looking for some volunteer labor, to attend a gear workshop in the evening of Wednesday the 29th of August. We’ll be mass producing armour and weapons. The gear will be paid for by nzlarps for A Top Secret Project. Ideally, I’m after 2-4 more people.

Beginners and experienced people very welcome and it doesn’t matter if you are a players or crew. I run these workshops as a production line and we will pump out a serious volume of equipment in a few hours. You’ll also get to find out about The Top Secret Project.

At a similar workshop, Tigger, Anna, Chantelle and I made 10 helmets and 10 axes for Viking raiders at St Wolfgang’s which Tigger later painted.

Bring:

  • old clothes
  • any latex and acrylic paint you are happy to donate, especially black, silver, gold, blue and yellow
  • any corflute you are happy to donate
  • any white fabric you are happy to donate

The workshop will start at 7pm at my place (17 Widdison Place, Albany) on Wednesday the 29th of August.

More details by PM if you’re available.

If you have any of the following materials you’d be willing to donate, we can use them:

  • corflute
  • heavy cardboard boxes from appliances
  • acrylic and latex based paints
  • plain fabric; cotton, canvas, denim etc in any colours
  • plastic or PVC pipes
  • camp mat

It’s only a couple of days away and it’d been very quiet on the volunteer front. It’s not like I’m asking for money here  this is just a few hours on a Wednesday evening that you might even enjoy.

I’m coming.

I’ll bring:

corflute
short pvc pipes (hand axe length)
tape
the nzLARPS tool box
epoxy resin
grey paint
camp mat
carpet underlay
leather

I don’t have the F2 glue - do you have some ?

I have glue.

If I am able to nab a lift with someone I’d love to come and help out. I’m also reasonably handy with a sewing machine and needle and thread if that’s going to be useful this time around.

I had a tentative plan for someone with sewing skills, which I can now look at doing. I was umming and aahing because fabric is always the big money item when you’re making costume.

If someone can give Malu a lift, please stick your hand up soon so I can get some fabric and pre-wash it.

Hey Malu, I’ll be leaving Ponsonby sometime after 6-30pm (can’t be more precise, it’s a parent hui at the kids school). So, if you can get yourself to a cafe in Ponsonby I can swing by and pick you up on the way.

Is this doable ?

Thanks Mike, I’ll grab dinner at Ponsonby Burger fuel and chill there. Looking forward to getting some sewing in

…and then there were three…

Malu,

I just went to buy fabric only to discover all the fabric stores in the top part of the CBD have shut up shop. Gone, kaput etc…

I have a good project that needs 1m of red cotton drill and 3m of yellow cotton drill, but I won’t be able to purchase fabric and have time to wash it between now and Wednesday. If you want to and have time and a convenient fabric store and feel like picking some fabric please do. I have $20 left in my budget

If you don’t, I still have lots of work to do so you won’t be bored.

Sorry, won’t be able to pick fabric up. I was gutted when India Emporium and the other store shut, they were so useful for costuming.

Thanks Mike and Malu.

We’ve made a start on some very nice new gear.

I’ll be doing some more work on this gear on Wednesday evening (5 September). Hopefully, by the end of Wednesday, I will have finished building all the new gear and it will be ready to paint.

I’ll be starting at about 7pm in Albany. Anyone who wants to help out is welcome.

Aargh. Sorry, I have to cancel this Wednesday. I’m working through to 11pm on Wednesday…

Which is a freaking long time when you leave for work at 7:30am :frowning:

I’d like to finish what was started on this workshop. We’re over half way and the kit is looking good. Does Monday or Tuesday evening suit anyone?
