Gear Storage

The idea was that a lease arrangement would be signed for afixed period of time. At the expiry of the lease the ownership of the shed reverts to Nikki.
The term we were bandying about was 10years, but that was for a higher cost of shed+foundation.
5 years might be more appropriate for a $2000 outlay. That would work out to costing us approx $1.09/day for gear storage and right of access, which I think is a pretty good deal on nzLARPS part.

So Nikki would like the shed?

Everyone wants a shed.

Part of the issue is that taking down these types of shed and rebuilding them somewhere else is actually rather difficult. Removing 2-300 rivets in such a way as to not damage the walls and be able to be reconstructed is pretty nasty. Last time I did it it took forever and the translocated version doesn’t have the same integrity and weather tightness it did in its original position.

In short - its certainly possible that we could move it, but not with the best results.

Can I suggest that if you are to remove it that you also invest in some tek screws to assemble it? They’ll be really easy to remove afterwards.
I know my shed is held together with them.

We could just plonk the thing whole onto a truck, assuming it was liftable.

Just wondering if having a mobile storage shed, that could grow to multiple mobile storage sheds later, might be a way to have a permanent investment in storage while not permanently inconveniencing one person. It makes volunteering to store the gear much easier, you just have to be willing to accept the shed(s) on your land.

But if Nikki is happy to put up with the inconvenience in exchange for keeping a shed, that’s fair enough too.

Also - can we get a grant for a shed?

If it was on land owned by the society - maybe?
Otherwise no.

I know they won’t give grants for construction, but what about for portable storage units?

If the shed doesn’t require building consent, then presumably it’s not a “building”.

Actually, thats a good point, I’ll need to check up on that - but, why not just get another trailer? (stick with what works?)

Lion Foundation: Didn’t we just give you guys a trailer?

NZLARPS: Er… yes you did. This time, what we’d like is a “portable storage unit”. Emphasis on the portable.

We can’t get the trailer into Nikki’s backyard. To get to her backyard, you have to go through her house.

So to get to a shed, presumably in her backyard, you’d have to go through her house too?

Yes.

I should know better than to ask oracles yes/no questons by now.

Aaah. I didn’t know that, and that changes alot.

As for the Lions?
They’re not the only charitable grants organisation. I’ve posted a list here before somehwere with about 10-12 groups on it.

Yes  (that was pretty funny from our end, I must admit…especially directly after, when a couple of people used Augury to find out from God where to get the answers and they got the reply “YOU JUST MET THE PEOPLE WITH THE ANSWERS!”)

Ahem. Wolfgang anecdotes aside, I think the next step is clearly to speak with Nikki, and scope out her backyard to see what our options are.

A couple of things.

  1. I am more than happy to have my backyard taken over with a shed. My backyard is not huge but its secure as you have to go through my house to get there and there would be enough space to put up a larger shed than the one Mike has. There is at the moment, no development in my backyard (i will measure it later when Im home). At the moment, its a slightly sloping tarp covered space with dirt underneath. There is a washing line, right in the middle of it, but I would be happy to have this taken away, as I use a portable line on my deck anyway.

So in exchange for having the area concreted, I am willing to host and manage the gear. The ownership of the shed itself, I am happy to remain with NZLARPS, but I have no idea how feasable it would be for NZLARPS to remove the shed if/when you want it back.

  1. At the committee meeting there was talk of leasing the space to NZLARPS. I have had a think about this, and because it would affect me in terms of remortgaging my house, I am not as keen to do this.

I can understand, how you would not want to take me up on faith that I will not just turn around and screw the society, as it is a business decision.

However Im afraid its a risk that will need to be considered by the society. I can tell you that I am not planning to move out in the next 5 years and that I will not be bothered by people needing to access the shed through my house.

So basically its completely up to the society. I am offering this as an option, and will not be in any way offended if its decided against.

I can’t think of anyone less likely to do that.

Are we going to be able to get the kit-set shed through the house to the back yard? Presumbly if it was to be removed later, it would not be possible to remove it whole given there’s a house in the way?

The idea of a larger shed does appeal.

It may be possible, depending on how light the shed is to lift the shed over the top of the house (Unit), but I doubt it.

Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about should come have a look at my place.
