Gear Shed Rebuild and Gear Rationalisation

At the June Auckland Regional Meeting we spent considerable time considering the best way for relevant to storing the gear etc.

We decided the we would erect the shed on a temporary basis at Hannah’s mum Jennifer’s place. We are simply going to set it up on flat ground, avoiding the need to create foundations. It should be a straight-forward set up.

The original target date was the 16th, however one of Beccah’s aunts died last night so I need to be in Nelson that weekend.

So, we’ve moved the date to Saturday 23rd June.

Location: 62 St Leonards Rd, Kelston *
Date: Saturday 23rd June
Time: 10am

Tools Needed:

If you have access to these tools, they are needed for the build:

 • Rivet guns (I’ll get the correct rivets)
 • Cordless drills
 • Drill bits (for removing the existing rivets or drilling new holes)
 • Socket bits (for screwing down the roof)
 • Hammer & nails
 • 1 Stepladder (I’ve got one, but two would be faster)

Roles

 • Folks handy with the above tools
 • We need people to hold the shed sections in place while the rivets are put in.
 • We need someone with a towbar to take the NZLARPS trailer back to my place and pick up the other trailer load of gear that is stored on one of my decks
 • And someone with a twobar to drop a trailer at mum Mum’s (we’ll two trailers on the day - the NZLARPS trailer and my mum’s cage trailer, so I’ll appreciate a hand getting them both back to my mum’s)
 • Lastly, everyone will help with the rationalisation/load in.

So, you can help even if you’re not a particularly handy tool-person.

If you are able to spare a day to ensure we have somewhere to store our gear that would be much appreciated. Please post here if you can make it.

 • this is actually not too far from Motu Moana, which is a bonus.

I’m keen. If anyone is coming from the shore, I’d love a lift.

I have lots of tools, but not a rivet gun.

I have a rivet gun and live nearby. Not sure I can make it due to a packed calendar at the moment but worst case someone can borrow the rivet gun.

I’ll be there.
There is a 6’(?) foot step ladder on site we can use. I could probably bring another if a third is better.

I have a good ladder I can bring as well. Very high quality and sturdy.
I have a good ladder I can bring as well. Very high quality and sturdy.
I expect that I should be able to come along to lend a (very unskilled) hand for this. I should probably be able to give you a lift Derek, and, depending on its size, might even be able to transport the ladder.

I’d really like to help but the Puhoi Steampunk Festival is on that day and the larp for it starts at 11:30am

If there is a ladder on site, then I’ll bring mine and that should be enough.

Thanks

Since I’m bringing Derek, and apparently not a ladder anymore, I should be able to offer a lift to up to two more people coming from the Shore if anyone is interested. PM me, preferably before Friday :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, so we’ve got 4 confirmed workers for this - Me, Hannah, Derek and Jarak.

That’s not enough for the full mission, but it is enough to get the shed up, and the gear will have to be moved in at a later date.

New plan:

 • Meet at site @ 10am. I’ll bring the shed in my cage trailer.
 • I’m hoping it will only take about 6 hours to put the shed up, finished by 4pm(ish). It might be raining as well, which means that we can set it up and let it dry out before moving the gear in at a later date. I’ll bring silicone to seal up any leaks.

Can you please PM re borrowing the rivet gun. Two guns = twice as much riveting bandwidth !!

I should be able to make it. I’ve got some of the necessary tools, though I’m not sure that the ladder fits into my car and the battery on my cordless drill doesn’t hold a charge very well. I have an old rivet gun but it’ll only take 1/8" rivets.

Thanks for volunteering. Don’t worry about the ladder, between mine and the one that is there we should be OK; also it’s only for the part where we put on the roof (shouldn’t take too long, just faster with 2 working on it at the same time).

Currently looking like I can make it! So should be there to help, complete with Rivet Gun.

Weather forecast doesn’t suck. Looking good!

If by any chance the weapon box gets looked at, can someone once again please look for my dagger (Elven style, bronze colour) which is probably in it.

Thank you.

You guys are real heroes. Thank you for giving up your free time to do that!

JOB DONE !

Many thanks to Derek, Jarak, Kirsten, Mandos, and Hannah for a cheery and fun build project. It really helped having the extra tools, meaning we could get things done more quickly. And also a big thanks to Hannah’s mum, Jennifer, for allowing us to take up space in her back yard.

The shed is ready to go. Next step, the big gear rationalisation.
