This winter comes a tale, of distant lands, of vineyard toil, and the fight to keep them. A tale of five cities.
After sell-out events in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane in 2014, popular wine event Game of Rhones this year expands to Sydney and Auckland.
Game of Rhones is a combative celebration of the classic grape varieties of the Rhone Valley in France. Think Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne to name just a few.
For the Auckland campaign, 20 of New Zealand’s best producers will be on show, including the likes of Babich Wines, Craggy Range, Elephant Hill, Fromm, Giesen, Man O’ War, Nanny Goat, Pask Winery, Sileni, Te Whare Ra, Trinity Hill, Villa Maria, George Michel, Cambridge Road, Cypress and more, plus Vinteloper and Yalumba waving the Australian flag. There will be over 80 wines on tasting as well as hearty fare by Auckland legends Bird on a Wire plus local beer by the much loved Good George Brewing.
For those keen on gaining extra insight, the Rhone Bar will again be the place to taste wines from ‘Beyond the Wall’ (ie: the Rhone Valley). Manned by some of the individual cities best sommeliers, they will be on hand to talk attendees through this vinous homeland offering wines by the glass at virtually cost price.
This interactive, tongue-in-cheek showcase encourages guests to taste and choose their favourite variety, style and region on the day by casting their votes for the Peoples Choice award for a chance to win some epic prizes. Wines will also be available to purchase on the day at cellar door prices. Punters who spend $250 or more with the same producer will be eligible to receive 50% of the price of entry.
With the blind (folded) tasting ‘torture chamber’ back again (a highlight of previous Game of Rhones installments), and an enthusiasm for the wine producers to dress in theme (as well as attendees for that matter) Game of Rhones is set for another monstrous campaign. Get ready Auckland because #WineIsComing

Tickets are $50 and includes a Riedel Ouverture Magnum glass (valued at $20) and all wine tastes (no pesky tokens!). Food by Bird on a Wire, local beer by Good George Brewing & wines from the Rhone Bar are additional.
