Saint George’s Campaign
25-27 April 2008
It’s that time of year again, the Company of Saint George are encamped and looking for trouble. We’ve moved since last year and this year we’re on a beautiful lifestyle block in Massey.
For those who don’t know us, the Company of Saint George is a small household of people in the SCA interested in the soldiers of mid 14th century England.
Each year we put on a FREE event as close as possible to Saint George’s Day (23rd April) to celebrate life in as enjoyable a way as we know how. This always involves a lot of fighting, hearty meals prepared over a camp fire and as much singing and dancing as we can squeeze in.
We’d like to see you there, for the whole weekend, or whatever hours you can spare.
What do I bring?
Camping gear (tent, ground sheet and bedding)
Cooking and eating stuff (bowl, cup, knife and spoon etc)
Medieval clothing suitable for camping and cooking in.
Armour, weapons etcetera
Chairs and table (if you like that kind of thing)
Tools (axe, hatchet, spade etc)
Chilly bin
First aid kit
Money (the event is free, but there is often nice things for sale).
Food & Drink
Food & Drink
The food at St George’s is always simple hearty fare. Everyone brings some food which ends up in the communal larder. We all roster on and do cooking and cleaning duties. However, the center of the camp is the campfire so don’t worry that you’ll be left in the kitchen peeling onions while everyone else is having fun. he most important thing is:
BRING SOME FOOD that can be turned into part of a meal for 50 people. For example, a leg of ham, a sack of onions, a dozen loaves of bread, a tray of mushrooms, a couple of trays of eggs etcetera.
If you have fresh herbs in your garden, please bring them. If you brew, please bring some.
You don’t need to bring enough variety for every meal, think big and buy in bulk.
And please remember, we don’t have refrigeration. So you may need a chilly bin and ice.
Please RSVP to Derek with numbers!

They say that no plan survives contact with the enemy, but being military sorts, we believe in having a plan anyway. Here is the timetable for the event:

We’re pretty casual about when things happen and if you have a wild and pressing urge to do something at any time, don’t let the timetable get in your way.
The venue we are using is a 12 acre lifestyle block. It is a working goat farm so the usual rules apply for this type of site, namely:
~ no dogs
~ leave gates closed if you find them that way
~ you’ll need to take your rubbish away with you after the event (unless you’re from out of town, in which case we’ll sort it out for you)
The address is 490E Don Buck road, Massey. A company banner (a red cross on white) will show you where to leave the road.

For those coming from out of town, follow State Highway 1 North, a bit before the Harbour Bridge, you will see State highway 16, follow it to the end. You’re now on this map and should be able to find your way.
