Flight of the Hindenburg - 20th Nov

Flight of the Hindenburg
Written by Nasia Alevizos, Katrina Allis, Nick Cole and Frank Pitt, revised and expanded by Ryan Paddy.

This scenario was written in Wellington for the original run at Kapcon in 2007. I played and was so impressed that I ran it in Auckland at Chimera in 2008. Since then there have been heaps of requests to run it again, so here it is freshly revised and expanded for your larping pleasure. This game is one of my all-time favourites.

We’ve had a stream of new larpers signing up over the last week as a result of the amazing work that Anna & the team did at Armageddon, and now the game is two weeks away and it’s time to open up registrations to everyone. Come along and help introduce some new larpers to what we do, and show off how it’s done!

Character list and link to registration form is here:

Join glamorous movie stars, gangsters, Nazis, spies, dashing heroes, aviators, mad scientists, and much more as we celebrate the premiere flight from New York with a special charity gala to raise money for local shelters and soup kitchens. Flight of of the Hindenburg mixes every imaginable 1930s pulp theme into one glorious epic adventure, aboard the largest aircraft ever to fly.

I’m assigning characters on a first-come first-serve basis, by the way.

Getting a big rush of sign-ups since it went up on Facebook, lots from new and newish players, great to see.

I’ve sent out all the character sheets for people who have signed up so far, so if you haven’t received yours then let me know.

There are still some characters spare and last-minute signups are welcome.

Hey folks, hope everyone had a great time at Hindenburg, I overheard some awesome roleplaying from new players and was really impressed with the quality of costume. Great to see heaps of new faces, feel free to post about favourite moments from the game here or on the Facebook event.

I think my personal favourite moment was riding on top of the red barons plane, thrust - shooting at Cthulu.

Oh also, a big thanks to Anna and Michelle for helping with GMing. While there wasn’t much for three GMs to do during the quiet early phase of the game, when everything hit the fan there’s no way I could have gotten by without your quick thinking.

I loved the sound of the conversations I overheard between Errol Flynn and Bette Davis (I think) - “Let’s run away together somewhere, darling. How about Germany?” The actors and actresses all looked fabulously glamorous - Errol Flynn in particular had the look down to a T. Hopefully we have some photos.

I’ve just been looking through the registration details, and I see that Flight of the Hindenburg was the first ever larp for 13 of the people who attended!

That’s a fantastic achievement for Anna and all the Armageddon promotion team, massive credit to them and to this approach of running a promotional effort followed by events specifically for new larpers as a way of introducing new people to larp.

For those interested in statistics: 9 of the new larpers expressed an interest in “Villainy” but only 4 expressed an interest in “Heroism”, 4 wanted “Romance”, and 8 wanted “Investigation & problem solving”. Drama, comedy, glamour and espionage were all very popular. Leadership was the least popular pick for new larpers, none of them asked for it. While many of the new larpers asked for easy costuming (but some wanted a challenge), there was a lot of splendid costuming on show despite them saying it’d be basic. 8 of the new larpers were female.

This statistical data should be kept by the committee and used when preparing promotions next time. Cool.

I’d suggest sending them a post-larp feedback survey too.
