Does anyone have the tools and skills to engrave or etch very fine details on a tiny metal object, less than 20mm diameter, for an NZLARPS project?
The Mr Minute key cutting guys do engraving. Charges are very reasonable.
Looks like they engrave text.
What I’m looking for is engraving pictures. At variable depth (i.e. rounded parts) not just a single depth. Like a tiny bas-relief carving.
Reckon they’d do that?
I have the tools but not the talent. At least I think I have the tools, might have to dig around a bit.
Are you wanting to make a signet ring?
You can do laser cutting and engraving over the web (see e.g. Ponoko), but I’m not sure that woudl meet your needs.
Isn’t it more fun as a mystery?
That’s really cool. Like Lulu but for 3d printing instead of books.
“Shapeways” is also a good site for 3d printing, they charge solely by volume of material used and they do free international shipping.
Depending on the object you are trying to engrave and the image you are wanting you could try electrolytic etching it, as in the article below
http://steampunkworkshop.com/electroetch.shtml
I think it’s usefulness is very dependant on the material you are wanting to etch though
Confirmed I have an engraving kit and I can find it, you are most welcome to borrow it.

Possibly. But if you were more precise, you may get better advice
