Fallout LARP

A LARP that was run in Russia last month, set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout series of games. Very elaborate props including exploding doors, hackable computer systems, plus the usual epic makeup. Full details here (translated from Russian): translate.google.com/translate?p … ry_state0=

ooh, cool stuff

Brilliant costumes, set-dressing, and photography. Awesome venue too.

Must have cost more than a pretty penny.

Otherwise, I reckon NZLARPS people could do something just as well

I love the translations. here is my favourite: “penetration into the base. Protection system is disabled. Remained prolezt inside”

Man, way to go making me homesick :stuck_out_tongue: Damn I wanna play that.

I agree we could, but I think whether we have yet is another question.

I reckon this is one of those cases that Derek talks about where there is a really pretty existing artwork or historical imagery to work from, providing a basis for a really attractive and really consistent look.

Check out the Brotherhood of Steel in the Fallout computer game:

And then in the larp:

And this shot from the larp looks weirdly like it is a computer game screenshot:

Also looks like it was a LARP/Airsoft cross over (hence all the saftey glasses)

Could be a good thing to hit Kam up for

Um, wasn’t this run in Russia?
Could be a good thing to hit Kam up for
Believe me, I’ve tried…

I think post-apocalyptic settings are appropriate for an airsoft larp. Nice to costume, workable technology levels, etc. I’ve heard a lot of nice things about the Fallout setting but never actually played the game. But the costumes above do demonstrate how having a strong artistic inspiration can make for cool gear.

I wonder what venue in Auckland would be appropriate for post-apocalyptic? Those Russians look like they got lucky with all those concrete bunkers. The only locations we have like that, for instance North Head, are open to the public. One alternative might be a container town in the style of System Danmarc, though I don’t know how they got so many old containers, they seem to cost around $2k each second hand. Renting them might be an option if it was a one-off event, 20ft containers are about $100/month each.

EDIT: or a tent-town with army tents.

As a basis for the rules there was a Fallout table top game pdf kicking around years ago, saw a copy printed out, but don’t have a copy myself. Would be a great jumping off point.

cough chain gun… gotta have one

$90 gets you a Nerf chain gun. All you need to do is paint it up and add 3 inches of foam… Perfectly LARP safe

I want one.

I bought one of the rifles from the company that makes those to check out how they go. The bands go all over the place like you’d expect, but they’re a great laugh and probably safer than most of the weapons we use. The downside is they have a very, very short range and take forever to load.

I got the entire iso image of it if any1 wants (also got fallout, fallout 2, and fallout: tactics if any1 wants them)

Dude. I think I need one. Was anyone else reminded of Vanya by the guy in the vid?

Also that Russian larp looks made of awesome.
