Faceless

I came up with an idea for a LARP and was wondering what people think of it.

The game is held indoors, it is a ball of sorts. Everyone is dressed the same, with the same mask. No clues as to your identity are allowed to be given away. The main rule of the LARP is not to take your mask off at any point. If you do: you are out.

There is conversation and politics. Events and incidents. And there is an added twist. If you are named by three people successfully, you have to take off your mask.

Makes for an interesting game I’d think.

What about silly accents and voices? are we allowed to we them to further mask oursleves?

Certainly, anything to stop your friends out of game naming you.
Voice changers are possible, but if someone is to use a voice changer, they must supply me with purchase location or schematic as it might become standard.

The event is not necessarily a ball though, It could be some other form of congregation. Perhaps a council of some kind?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, If you name someone incorrectly, you gain a mark (counts towards your mask-off).

Ideally, the costumes and gear should be at the point where only mannerisms will tip people off. Voice or features would be a dead givaway.

Would it not be too easy to recognise people by voice?

and i can think of about six or seven people that I could recognise by thier mannerisims alone, interesting idea but i think it will be too easy and therefore short.

I think it’s a great idea, not only could you wear a mask, but wear huge cloaks, and wigs, and strap pillows to yourself to change your body shape. High heels! Hunched backs! write down things instead of saying them, or have flash cards with responses on them.

All that plus an interesting plot would make for a great LARP.

Yeah, the point of the Game aspect is to remove people from their selves. If you can force yourself to act in a manner different from your normal self, you succeed. If you cannot shake your quirks, you will get unmasked.
The masks help with this, they allow you to detatch yourself from the things going on around you. Note: it is not necessary to unmask people, that is not the aim of the game. The aim is to work through the plot, the faceless nature of it simply makes for interesting play.

And voices can be faked, or cue cards used, though your handwriting may give you away as well…
As I said, if voice changers/distorters are available, this makes it harder to tell.
