Email Mailing List

This doesn’t strike me as a half bad idea. Would people find it useful if we set up a mailing list, which everyone could suscribe to, that sent out monthly game date information?

Isn’t that what the calendar is for?

No, the calender is for people to look at,m I think this would be better, because the information gets sent out to you. That way you don’t have to be interested in the calender as such. I have only looked at it twice myself.
It would also be good for the new people that don’t know what is happening, and don’t want to navigate the site looking for it.
And also for those people that are just starting out in the world of running games, then they can get the message out there to people that might be interested that might not get the message any other way.

Near the beginning Craig was sending out emails, but I think he handed that roll to someone else and Ihave no idea what happened after that…

Woah! You are the first person I have ever heard of who would rather be spammed than click a link! :open_mouth:

It got turned into Immersion magazine, which has all known upcoming events. Unfortunately that doesn’t include events that are planned and run between quarterly magazine releases.

I find it nice to have something in my in box. Even if it is something I already know about. I only seem to get emails when I stir crap up, so this would be a nice change really.

same with me, i am very lonely and would like a email now and again. furhtermore, i would just be good and if you don’t want ti you can unsubscribe so eat me.

I wouldn’t mind having a newsletter in my inbox

I totally support the mailing list idea. Yay!

Anna and I had a long discussion today about the prospect of “Immersion Monthly”. We are thinking about something where content is created in a way similar to blogging where anyone can come and add posts and an editor sends stuff to an email list every month and a mailing list every quarter. It would be at nzlarps.org/immersion and be constantly emerging. Can we get another show of hands in general for this question -

If you were organising or had been to a larp game, would you write a short piece that stands alone for the Immersion website without being asked?

That sounds brilliant. Auto-content rather than beating people over the head about getting things in on time.

I’m all in favour of a mailing list to notify of upcoming events. Since it would be actively opt-in, and very much on-topic, I would not see it as in any way classifiable as spam or unwanted email… if you dont want it, you dont sign up. Simple.

Although Immersion has a list of upcoming games, as does the calendar, these require you to actively check and Immersion is not frequent enough. A notify mailout would be far better.

We would, of course, have to put all the necessary anti-spam checks on the mailing list - eg, members only to post, or even a pre-agreed subset of people only to post, and probably make it a moderated list as well.

I’m all for it.
Although I’d suggest that to start it off it should be an opt-out, rather than opt-in.
I’m sure we can use this reponsibly and anybody that replies that they don’t want to be on the list that we would actually remove them.
My reasoning is that the idea is to advertise upcoming events and that ther is a vast majority of people that don’t come to the website, have forgotten, arn’t aware etc.
We should set up the list to initially include the email address of all those on Diatribe and any that have ever been collected through Mordavia etc. Opt-out and opt-in from then on.
