Would you like to be able to pay by Eftpos at markets at games?

I was at the Seeker sale this weekend, and it was really convenient that they had Eftpos available.

Would people like for Eftpos to be available at markets during games too, so you can use bank cards, debit cards and credit cards to buy things? I think this is pretty normal at overseas larps that have markets.

The upside is the convenience, but the downside is adding one more OOC aspect to the blurry IC/OOC market area.

Buying gear isn’t overly IC anyways. (Some will remember Shard / Me selling my wife’s excess velvet and fantasy-esque clothing)

We would need to do a lot more to make it IC. A LOT.

It seems like a high proportion of people are keen for this.

I’ll see about hiring an Eftpos terminal for the Teonn market this Saturday.

I’m happy to take card payments on behalf of other traders too. I can repay traders in cash on the day for these card payments.

Thank you Ryan, that’s very good of you. I had another idea just now that doesn’t involve hiring eftpos, since we don’t know how much that is. A lot of people have smart phones now, so direct bank transfers are possible. I’d be willing to accept seeing the confirmation screen (or being emailed a screenshot) at the market.

Any reason this wouldn’t be a good idea? Its easy enough to print out bank acct details and take them along.

It’s $75 for a Saturday, and I booked one earlier today.

I’ve always let people from the community take items and pay me by bank transfer later anyway, has always worked out for me so far. But immediate payment by card is even more convenient for everyone, and it will add the option of credit card payment.

There are markets at larps? What sort of stuff is for sale?

When is the next market after this weekend? I’m working this weekend so unable to make it to this Teon game.

Yeah, quite often on the Saturday morning of a weekend long LARP there will be a market. It’s often a mix of IC and OOC. So Ryan has a stall selling Paddywhack LARP weapons / armour / accessories for real $$$, while there might be an NPC there selling magical runes for in game currency.

I imagine the next full on market will be at the next weekend game (Crucible in… March?). However many of the vendors can probably be contacted in the downtime to get hold of stuff (I know Ryan and Kara you can visit their websites).

Jon

In Europe the traders have their own area and stay open for the whole game. So people can visit whenever is convenient and there isn’t the big rush.

We might be able to do that if the games get big enough.
