Ebay - lots of LARP swords available (800 of them to liquid)

Not sure if we want to look at these as a group. They’re not as pretty as the ones Ryan is bringing in:

I will be keeping an eye on them to see if the prices drop.

I believe they’re manufactured by http://www.calimacil.com/ and I’m not sure if we have any of this type of kit around.

They are Calimacil. Which means they are cast foam, and harder than latex swords and supposed to be stab safe.

Are they coreless then?

They’re in the older Calimacil style. The tips have changed to more natural shapes. I wonder if this a clearance lot. But no, not coreless. And stab safe means they won’t gut you. But I have tested this with my wife and I took a thrust to the gut in the interest of science. Kind of like being punched… no injury but a little harsh.

I fought with my calimacil blade in quest to the forest of darkness this year, it requires a lot more effort to pull blows as it is several times more heavy than the standard latex.

Edit:
Pros
Stab safe - note - the core won’t come through but the tip is quite solid
Durable beyond any other blade
Great defensively as they are heavy and block exceptionally well vs. standard foam latex
Sword in hand feel - the molded grip feels great and the blades have a nice heft (which is also a con)

Cons
Ugly tip
Heavy blades (physics means you either swing slower or pull the blow a lot harder or you will strike too hard)
Weird blade which can be quite solid when striking.
Not for beginners.

A little more reflection on this.

I would be happy with these if we had a lot more of them in the community. Then people would be used to them. Then it would be down to how we viewed the pro’s and con’s.

The biggest reason for me is safety first and then advantage second as these weapons need stricter control to swing.

If weapons need to be used in a significantly different way, it’s probably better we don’t have them. Especially if they have to be swung softer.

Tip work also just seems an iffy idea to me … some people may pick up non safe to thrust swords and try thrusting with them.

I would still say, no thrusting with these. The tips are not soft.

I agree
