DIY Vambraces

Not hard to make. You need some scrap leather (which can be had from TradeMe), a plastic bucket (warehouse / supermarket / $2 shop), a bunch of 5mm single-cap rivets (GDL or similar), buckles to taste (ditto), rotary punch, hammer, rivet setter, craft knives, cutting board, scissors, leather needles and thread. You can either leave them like this, or stitch another piece of leather to the back to stiffen them some more / prevent pinching / pretty them up a little.

The big advice from this project is to play around with the pattern a lot, and make a mockup out of cloth and cardboard before you start cutting leather and playing with rivets. You don’t want to get them finished, then find they restrict your movement so you can’t swing a sword without a bit of leather-covered plastic digging you on the inside of the elbow.

Pretty!

Sweet vambrace!

This guy also offers quite a good tutorial of how to make them (and also a retractable blade!)

I can vouch for the ease of use as I made a set for chimera! Tip to anyone trying to do it, get a set of old leather boots from an op shop, the leather works perfectly!
