Delicious Friends - November 3

Delicious Friends: a larp of Fallen London
Written by IdiotSavant, based on the game by FailBetter Games

1889. Three decades ago, London was stolen by bats. Dragged deep into the earth by the Echo Bazaar. The sun is gone. All we have is the gas-light of Mr Fires.

But life goes on, lit by glowing fungus and candlelight. There are still people in Fallen London. And there are still parties.

The best parties are thrown by The Popular Socialite. Everyone who’s anyone will be there: bohemians, poets, anarchists, even a devil or two, all looking to lose themselves for a few hours. But the Great Game is afoot, the rakes are playing Knife and Candle in the shadows, and the Masters of the Bazaar are watching…

When: Saturday, November 3, 19:30 - 22:30
Where: Brooklyn Community Centre, Harrison St, Wellington
How much: $15

How to sign up: reply to this post, or email me directly. I’ll send you a questionnaire and a cast-list, and I aim to cast on Monday, October 22. Note that while this game is aimed at new larpers (so they will be given priority), there should be spaces for those who missed it at Hydra.

Costuming tips: basically Victorian / steampunk. Your character name should give you an idea of social class.

Fallen London is the award-winning and hideously addictive broswer game by Failbetter Games. If you’re not familiar with it, you can check it out here. You don’t really need to know very much about it; they call it “a dark and hilarious Gothic underworld”, and that seems about right. The larp uses the setting, but none of the actual plots, so you don’t need to worry about spoilers.

Delicious Friends! Invitations are still available for The Popular Socialite’s party! Mingle with Bohemians, Devils, and Dangerous Revolutionaries! Be a pawn^H^H^H^H player in the Great Game! Sample the forbidden pleasures of Prisoner’s Honey! Thrill to the Starving Artist’s tale of their recent murder!

Romance, intrigue, mystery, murder and mayhem, all in Delicious Friends.

When: Saturday, November 3, 19:30 - 22:30
Where: Brooklyn Community Center
How much: $15 (honey provided)

If you are interested, please respond by email; I will send you a casting questionnaire. I am hoping to cast this tonight, so I can get character sheets out to people and they can costume it.

Cast-list:

(This cast-list has been redacted for privacy reasons, there being no good reason to leave it lying around after over a year. If you wish to know who you played, please get in contact - I/S)

Character sheets will follow tomorrow, once I’ve tweaked them some more (the change in game size means shifting some plot around).

For the curious: my first casting priority was to accommodate the wishes of new players. Once they were sorted, I tried to slot everyone else around them, paying as much attention to their preferences as I could. In some cases, a match wasn’t possible, and those people have been given a random character.

One role has been held open, since I’m expecting a further new player to email me. Two spaces are provisional, dependent on no-one else signing up before Friday.

Edit: Updated cast list.

After one game, I’m suddenly feeling type cast.

I seem to be missing from this list…

That would be because I can’t read.

Fortunately, there are characters spare. Depending on numbers, I’ll either bump the people who have already played, or reverse the rewrite.

Edited: to place blame where it belongs. (and dammit, crossed messages)

That would be because you never signed up for it.

That is true. Hannah signed me up in her response. Perhaps I should be more clear then

Thanks Idiot for the relook

Having just talked to some people, looks like I’m running with a full cast.

Character sheets have been sent to almost all players; I’m still waiting on final numbers before distributing the last few.

Cast-list updated, all character sheets sent. We have a full cast, with 6 new players.

See you all on Saturday.

Hi wonderful people,

Does anyone know what happened to the photos that were taken for this game?

I need to get the 150MB of photos to the photographer for post-game editing.

Was it your camera that was being used and not his? You could send them my way for editing/ photoshopping.

Yes - but he took them, so they’re his photos.
