Council consultation on Draft community assistance policies

So I was poking about on the Auckland Council website, and discovered that the Council is currently doing consultation on ‘Draft community assistance policies’. I haven’t really looked at the details of it, so I don’t know if its anything relevant or of interest to NZLARPS (or if committee already knows about it), but it sounded like it might be, so I figured I’d post something about it here just in case. The page about it is here.

Unfortunately consultation for part of it closes on Friday, which probably won’t be nearly long enough I imagine, but one part will be open until mid-May.

Not much in the Community Occupancy or Facility Partnership policies of interest to us; these are about long-term use of council land or buildings by community or sporting organisations (e.g. using council land for a community garden, or building clubrooms for some sport), and the way rents and maintenance costs are set. The only possible interest is if anyone wants to build a larp village (which I think is well beyond our current means or plans)

The Community Funding policy is about aligning the old policies for funding community groups (since there was that whole amalgamation SuperCity thing). There’s nothing in here that we need to submit on, but it is quite informative of the process. It might be worth looking at the plans of various locla boards and the Auckland Council regional criteria sometime to see if we can get them to fund an event.

However are we in need of some long term storage space or land on which to erect the storage shed. So if the council has a spare room or part of a hall that we could share with another community group, then I’m sure NZlarps would be very interested indeed.
I just saw this and haven’t gone to the Jarak link, but think approaching council community group people is a good link to explore.

Yeah, I was at work so I didn’t really have that much time to go poking into the details, so I wasn’t really sure if it was anything relevant to NZLARPS or not :stuck_out_tongue: I pretty much just saw something about funding of community groups in there and thought that sounded potentially relevant (although I did think that the first part probably wasn’t going to be). But I figured it was better to make sure Committee members (and interested members of the society) were aware of it, so that they could choose to do something about it or not.

I agree with this, and would add that I think NZLARPS would really benefit from having access to a hall with attached storage space in Auckland. The hall we could use for meetings, workshops and games, and the storage space would be for the obvious.

We wouldn’t need exclusive use of the hall, just of the storage space, so a shared council-owned space could work well.

How did/do the Scouts afford to have so many halls around the place?
