Costume

Okay, I’d like to go to Chimera, but the biggest problem for me, probably’ll be the costumes, Are there any LARPs on Chimera that provide the costumes?
Are there any ‘costumes’ that are just normal clothing really, and are there any that just require some medieval/fantasy clothing? Thanks in advance =D.

If you have a nosey through the larp descriptions on the site, most of them have costume requirements in there.

Anna usually ensures that there is a costume light or modern costume option every round, so don’t let not being able to costume some genres prevent you from coming to Chimera.

Okay… So then how do I choose the day to come, if I can’t come every day?
Or let me put it like this: I’m truly completely new to Chimera, and almost completely new to LARP itself (Only had one event as of yet). What do I need to know =S.

Hmmm… Well, if you can only come one day, but you can come the whoooole day, then i would say choose Saturday. it’s the one with 2 daytime sessions and the main larp-with-everyone at night. It goes late. Midnight usually. You can choose on the questionnaire when you enter the main larp that you want a"costume light" character

How costume light is costume light? =S.

I wish I had infinite supplies and the tools for it, I had an idea on something, but alas, it won’t be possible =/

Hey Kamica,

For the costume-challenged, here’s a run down on what your options are:

Friday Night:
The Bell requires plain black clothing, so that’s a good option. Alternately, both Bad Dreams and The House on Haunted Hill you can get away with a white shirt and a dark coloured semi-formal jacket.

Saturday Morning:
KiL Quest needs crew members, so they will be providing gear from the nzLARPS stocks. Otherwise, I think Asterix could be talked into providing some roman armour or some such.

Saturday Afternoon:
Defence of Nurumburg will provide peasant costumes from the nzLARPS stocks, the Board of Inquiry will probably work with modern semi-formal (white short, black jacket) and I think Stop That, It’s Silly is also fairly low on costume requirements (dress like you’re from a Monty Pythom skit - so, random)

Sunday Morning:
Knightshade will be able to provie crew gear, Corbett and Grimes can get away with modern if you opt for one of the TV crew roles and I think the circus game should have some low costume options too.

Sunday Afternoon:
Forgotten Gods needs crew, so does A Ball of Blood and Tears, and you can turn up to the Scummit in the same semi-formal white shirt/black jacket get up.

You can’t get out of doing costuming for The Gordian Knot, but if you pick it right, you should be able to get through the weekend playing fantasy games needing crew that will provide costume, one semi-formal suit thing, and one sci-fi costume. If you still need stuff, people are happy to lend, and most GMs are understanding and can give you a low costume option.

Don’t let costuming woes stop you from coming along! We can make it happen for you!

There are easy costume options for the Gordian Knot on Saturday night too, which is covered in the questionnaire.

What falls under “Easy” in a sci fi RP?

Starwars on saturday morning will be very easy to costume and there will be minimal combat as its a mostly social game.

For those who know my games - trust me when I say this will be REALLY low combat - I am expecting less combat than at the Crystal Palace great exhibition larp that was at chimera a while back for those who have been about a bit

Sorry to say, but that didn’t help one bit…

Usually a suit, or facsimile thereof - think the civilian clothing in B5 or BSG. The Star Wars game also struck me as easy (and I was eyeing it up before it moved for precisely that reason) - obvious options included overalls and work/combat boots or dark pants, white shirt, sleeveless vest and riding boots.

For the Gordian Knot Space Opera :
Humanoid, cargo pants and t-shirt a la Serenity, Overalls, for spaceship crews etc.
More up market suits/dress for the more beuaracratic types.
Holograms with an “H” on their forehead.
With ot without facepaint.

When we send out the character briefs, our intent is to have a costuming guideline, based on what species/group you are in. (Assuming we design & write it by then :unamused: ). This can hopefully get the various groups consistent within itself.

We are aiming to have private forums for the group members to also help discussions between the group members on various shared backgrounds and hopefully have costuming help available for newcomers.

There’s been a lot of good advice given in this thread, could you elaborate on which point exactly we have been unclear on?

What do you need? Some of us have spare kit we’re happy to lend out.

This. Sorry for not quoting =D. If I don’t quote, presume (as long as it makes a bit of sense) That it’s either toward the original post (Which isn’t the case here, since that’s mine) or towards the post above mine =D.

Ah, I see. If you have a look at the page for Xcerus’ Star Wars game at Chimera, he’s actually provided some really good costuming tips for each character option: nzlarps.org/chimera/larp-star-wars.html
