Costume ideas

@IdiotSavant suggested I compile a list of costume patterns that might be suitable for Consequence for those who sew (or are on friendly terms with a sewist)

Initially I’ll restrict myself to currently in print patterns (available in NZ):

Butterick

B5265
https://butterick.mccall.com/b5265
Because Brookfields can be colder than the Wild West

B5831
https://butterick.mccall.com/b5831
For Sunday best, or if you don’t expect to be running around to much

B6339
https://butterick.mccall.com/b6339

B6608
https://butterick.mccall.com/b6608
Not quite in the right time period, but it’s too cool to leave out

McCall’s

M6770
https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6770
Definitely more steampunk, but there’s lots of ways to mix and match this

M6975
https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6975
Accessories

M7003
https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m7003
Something for the gents

Simplicity

S1039
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-1039-mens-cosplay-costumes/
For those into weird science or necromancy

S1558
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-1558-misses-steampunk-costume/
Slightly out of period, but useful for practical ladies

S2895
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-2895-mens-costumes/
Historic western gentleman

S8114
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-8114-misses-steampunk-costumes/
Anachronistic, but good for ladies who prefer to wear trousers when they’re being badass

S8159
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-8159-misses-cosplay-costumes-with-corsets/
Disney steampunk.

S8361
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-8361-hats-in-three-sizes/
Ladies hats

S8408
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/simplicity-pattern-8408-mens-shirt-and-vests/
Steampunk waistcoat and shirt

S8713
https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/costumes/adult/simplicity-pattern-8713-mens-hats-in-three-sizes/
Hats for men (but would work fine for ladies)

Ahha! I’ve been looking for the elliptical skirt pattern. Thank you muchly!

Another option for digital downloads:

Black Snail

Free bloomers (pattern)

I really suggest keeping an eye on the “patterns” section on trademe - just search under costumes. They often have out of print costume patterns as well.

For people who want to buy rather than make costumes, this site is useful:

(Also useful just as visual inspiration: what sort of vest should I make? What’s the colour palette like? Do I really need arm-garters?)

Can confirm that a plain white shirt with the collar cut off looks the business when combined with a suitable waistcoat.

After the rain this weekend, I’d suggest that the traditional oilskin stockman’s jacket might be a good idea for the winter games. Looks badarse, and keeps the rain off.

Someone must have told the pattern companies about Consequence, as there are a few new patterns that would work for some characters
