Hi everyone,
Chimera is coming up this weekend, so here is an overview of the most important things to be aware for the weekend.
Things to Bring
- If you are staying on site, please remember to bring pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, teddy bears and any other sleeping essentials that you require. It does get cold in the scout bunks, so bring that extra blanket if you can.
- If you are staying on site, you will have received a confirmation email tonight. Check your spam filters, and if it’s not there, email us.
- A towel - even if you aren’t staying on site, you are welcome to make use of the shower facilities at the venue.
- Gold coins - we will have soft drinks on sale for $1 per can and V on sale for $2 a can (we were not able to get sponsored this year) as well as misc chocolates and chips, so have some change on hand for purchasing snacks and drinks. There is no eftpos at Chimera.
- Your costumes
- A coffee mug for hot drinks
Things we provide
- We provide disposable plates and cutlery for those who are using the on-site catering. Chimera attendees are welcome to provide their own crockery and cutlery if they wish, and help us cut down on the wastefulness of the disposable variety.
- Your character sheets
- Toilet paper - we’ve got this essential covered
What to Do When You Arrive
- When you arrive, please check in with Administration. That is primarily myself and Rowena Knill. We will be wearing name badges to identify ourselves. We will then check you off our lists, give you your name badges and give you further instructions.
- If you are staying on site: The arrangement is the different to previous years. This year, we have booked the whole camp booked and accommodation will be split between Puketane (the lower group of buildings) and Mowgli (the upper building). The room doors up at Mowgli do not lock so please make sure you keep cellphones and wallets on you, or you leave them with the organisers before round starts. We will do our best to make sure that Mowgli is well patrolled. When you arrive at Chimera on Friday, you will get to choose a room to stay in. Rooms contain 4-6 beds each. If you are in a room that is lockable, the key will be given to ONE member of the room. That person is responsible for returning the key to us at the end. If you lose the key, you will be charged for it. Please feel free to arrange yourselves into groups for accommodation. We play Teonn with this same arrangement, and we have not had problems at Mowgli.
Things to Remember on the Weekend
- Get to know people: We have a very large number of people who have never been to Chimera, or have never larped, or are from out of Auckland attending this year. Please be friendly and get to know these people! If you see someone standing by themselves, go and introduce yourself, ask them what games they are in and how they got into larping. Remember how scary it was when you were new, and let’s make it a warm, welcoming experience for the new people.
- Be On Time: We are running a very tight schedule on Chimera weekend, and everyone - players and Game Masters alike - are asked to be extremely mindful of the timetable, and stay on schedule. Players are asked to keep to the meal times, and to be prompt to musters so that we can get games started on the dot. Game Masters are asked to start and finish their games on time.
Security Warning
Motu Moana is a regular target for thieves, who come in when the rooms are unguarded and unlocked, and take things. Please do not bring valuables to Chimera. Please make sure your room is locked at all times (if it is lockable) when there is nobody there - this is your responsibility. If your room does not lock, please keep your cellphone and wallets on you, or leave them with myself or Rowena. We will have the whole camp hired so there should be no strangers on site. Please keep an eye out as well for suspicious individuals who are lurking around and bring this to the attention of the organisers as soon as possible. Let’s be vigilant and responsible, and we won’t have our weekend ruined by robbery.
Most Important
- Start praying, wishing, crossing fingers and doing weather dances for good weather for the weekend!
- And absolutely most importantly, come prepared to have an absolute blast. It’s going to be a fun weekend
