Chimera 2010 - More Games Urgently Needed

Hi everyone,

Due to several people pulling out, Chimera 2010 needs either:

2 games for 15ish people, or
1 game for 15ish people and 2 games for 8ish people, or
4 games for 8ish people

The criteria for our games are as follows:

  • Characters must be prewritten, and mechanics must be reasonably simple.
  • The game must take no more than three hours to run, including set up time, briefings and debriefings. That is to say, if you’re in the 10am-1pm slot, you’ve only got those three hours.
  • One-off games are strongly preferred. Campaign games are invitation only. Campaign games that are invited are asked to write “stand alone” type games, to be easily accesible by newbies and out-of-towners.
  • Your game must be completed by August 8th so we can be sure to have a ready game on the day of the convention.
  • Reruns and overseas published games are welcome.
  • Timeslot and game space to be decided by Anna and Simone in conjunction with game writers.

You do not need to write a new game to run at Chimera! Ryan Paddy has a thread here that has collated a very rich resource of pre-written games. Pre-written games will need some work, usually on mechanics, but require far less effort to run than a game from scratch.

Also worth noting is that the Shifting Forest Storyworks scenarios are now available for free download, and would be wonderful to try out at Chimera. shiftingforest.com/

Please email chimera@nzlarps.org urgently if you are able to help! Even if this is your first time in running a game, the Chimera team are friendly and helpful and will make it easy for you!

Can you go with a single 30-player game instead? (obviously, this depends on the timetable, what else might be running, and what spaces are available).

And if anyone is stuck for stuff to run, look at some of the games listed here. These are all prewritten games, most of them free to download; all you have to do is produce them. I’ve skimmed a few, and in the 15-player range, I suggest Dragon in the Poplars (note: this is a night game), perhaps “New Voices in Art” (which would be a bit different - its a Dogme larp), or possibly “In Absentia” (though the format of that seems a bit odd). I would not recommend “BSG: Black Corridor” or “Priceless” as they require multiple locations, or “The Class Trip” because it is crap.

You should’ve seen The Voyage of the Mary Celeste last year…

I could make do as a last resort

We’ve sorted one lot, so now we only need either ONE 15 player-ish game, or TWO 8 player-ish games.

And we’ve got another 8 person game signed up, so all we need is another smallish (8-12 person) game and we’re set!

Gosh, what are the new games?

EDIT: (If anyone wants to go the weird/experimental route with prewritten games, I’m happy to write up my notes from the last couple of Kapcon games I ran. A wake and a book club - exciting, yes?)

I’ll post a list and links when they go up on the website - I think there’s about five games to go up. Once we have our last game confirmed, I can also work out the timetable and post that

instead of a 8 player game, would a workshop maybe be a go?

or maybe table top or other non-larp but in that sort of geeky area activity.

While we are the “Live Action Role Playing” society I could forsee a table top ‘event’ going down quite well with many of our crowd.

I like the workshop idea quite a lot. Maybe crafting, or improv acting, or something like that?

There are more tha enough conventions and events with tabletop as their focus. We’re a dedicated live action roleplaying event, it would be inappropriate.

I don’t particularly want to argue the semantics of live ACTION role playing with you but when we are happy to welcome white wolf lrp’s there is little difference between drawing cards and rolling dice.

Besides - I offered you various alternative solutions (8 in total) larps 5 of which had 1 page of rules. So i know for a fact you don’t particularly care about what I have to offer the community anymore.

I’m not sure what you mean. You once in person offered to run a Battle of Endor game for me and I asked you to email me the specifics, and never heard from you. I can’t recall the other seven games you apparently offered me. If you are interested in running something, I would urge you to email us at chimera@nzlarps.org, like all the other game writers have done, but I understand from another post that you won’t be attending, so it is a moot point.

I will not be attending precisly because you have ignored my e-mails and I did send them to you.

I’m very sorry, it appears they were eaten by the internet - I’ve checked both the Chimera address, as well as my two personal email addresses to no avail. Perhaps resend them via PM?

It’s a bit odd that whenever I send you somthing it dissapears and whenever you send me somthing it never arrives 0-o

:open_mouth: Gasp

Oh noes!

The sock creature from the laundry must have escaped!

goes to get hunting gear

Messed up spam filter getting in the way, maybe? I’ve had important emails get lost that way - was very frustrating.
