BattleCry larping events and what do people want

Hi folks,

In the Auckland forum I have a thread about BattleCry 2012 and I’ve posted some questions about what sorts of things do people want to happen in the Larping way at BattleCry. And it was suggested I post in here as sometimes people might only read some areas of the forum and miss threads.

I would like to revamp the Larping events for BattleCry however I’m not sure what people have enjoyed previously at BattleCry so I’m looking for feedback. I’m also looking for feedback from those who haven’t larped at BattleCry in terms of what could be changed or altered to encourage you to have a go next time.

BattleCry 2012 is in February, in just under 9 months and I would love to get together an interesting timetable of events for people to attend. If you have any feedback, ideas or suggestions please pop into the Auckland thread and post… or email/message me.

Regards,
Karen

Back in the day (1990’s) our favourite LARPs at battlecry was Masquerade (One World By Night), and good old Orc Ball. I believe Orc Ball to be a good idea for Battlecry as it is sooo much fun. 8)

Coolies. Orc Ball is definitely something we can try and run again. I’ll talk to the people who ran it last year and see if we can organise it. Just thinking we could try and run it as an afternoon event and maybe have teams register way in advance so costuming/themed props etc might happen. And maybe get some special awards/tropheys made for it… a winning team trophey, awards for fun things in the games like most kills, most injuries, best death etc. I guess it could almost be a mini larp on it’s own… arrange for team photo’s, set up team pavilions on the field around the game pitch, have a show of team heraldry and have team supporters, cheer leaders, healers etc. I guess having sideline fights between supporters like a pubroom brawl could also happen… would be a great way to practise larp weapon skills too

Would it be better as a whole morning, whole afternoon or a short lunch break sort of thing?

Woke up this morning with this idea still in my head… Would people be interested in a full on afternoon larp based around Orc Ball? The Viking clans have gathered and great games have been organised. Many are there to show off their fighting prowess to impress or show off their skills (improve standing with leader, impress others, woe partners), some are there to wager and some are there for (plot things/brain fail atm).

We could have several clans, have people opt for a combat character or a non-combat character. We could run this out on the field on the Sunday afternoon and have Orc Ball played as part of it, and have a bit more going on among the spectators of the game (the non-combat characters) and groups of people could register together and form clans.

Would this be of interest to people?

You could have a currency, prize money, and managers who buy players. Like a football league.

I’ve always prefered the term “Trollball”, by the way. It’s the way I’ve always heard it, and it’s used overseas too. There’s a trollball league written into the huge Quebec larp Bicolline, they use these cool latex troll’s heads as balls.

I like the name Trollball too. We actually made a giant foam ball with looks like a trollkin which we used a few years back. I’ll have a hunt in the box of gear I have to see if it’s still useable.

Thanks for the info on Bicolline… that stuff is awesome. They built a whole town… wow! The battle clips on their website are fantastic.

Hmm, we have a pretty big field area outside of the ASB Stadium for use on the Sunday of BattleCry. And some more field area down the back behind the school. Tents, pavillions and kit-set housing could be put up on the area… hmmm…
