Battlecry LARP space

Mordavia has been assigned a timeslot to run a LARP or workshop at Battlecry. The slot is on Sun Feb 12th from 2pm till 6pm.

We’ve also been assigned a stall space that we can use for this time, or for the whole weekend. And we have the opportunity to add flyers to the event pack that all the participants receive.

I’m not sure if Mordavia will make use of this. We never committed to doing anything, and no-one has volunteered to take it up yet.

So the offer is open to NZLARPS to make use of the timeslot and stall space. Perhaps the committee and society members could discuss what the best use of this opportunity might be?

A suggestion might be instead of using the slot to run a game, how about running a talk about what larping is, larping in Auckland, maybe cover what goes on at a Mordavia game, show off some of the cool props and costumes, and promote the next lot of events…

Or even have a discussion about what people might like at future larps or the 2007 BattleCry…

You don’t need to use the whole 4 hours if you don’t want.

It would just be nice to have something to do with larps happening, so we/BattleCry can continue to help promote them.

Rhiannon is keen to take charge and run a Mordavia game in the slot. For most of the time, I’ll man the stall, where I’ll also build a monster costume and talk about nzLARPS and what’s going on in the scene

Lovely, thanks for stepping up Rhiannon and Craig.

Looking forward to details on the game. I might even be keen to play if I’m available.

Would it be okay to sell latex weapons on the stall do you think? With Paddywhack being an associate and all it would seem appropriate. If I can’t make it, would you be happy to deal arms on my behalf Craig? I could give you a commission.

Yes, sure thing. Appropriately, buyers will be better off joining the society and gaining their 30% discount anyway. The weapons are attractive and should be familiar to Battlecry’s attendants, so will help the stall get attention. Don’t worry about a commission, I’d be happy with just the sign-ups they may generate.

I’d just like to repeat Ryan’s thanks from me and the BattleCry people… The more diverse gaming type activities and events we can offer at BattleCry, the more gaming people will be in the same place at the same time, so we can spread the word of all our events…

And I’m hoping after this one, we can all get together and have a big discussion about where we can go with larping at BattleCry.

Yeah, looking forward!

Karen also emailed me this when I let her know by email –

[quote]Hi Craig,

Yippee! So what do you need from us in relation to the Mordavia game? And an idea what/how long etc so I can tell people when they register? Money? Last time we gave Ryan $3 per person for the use of equipment etc. Do you want that sort of thing too?

Stall wise, do you want it for both days, or just the Sunday?

And do you want to have a flyer in the loot bags about NZlarp?

And if you can email me a list of the names of your “helpers” for the stall and for the running of the Mordavia game, I can make exhibitor name tags for them.

Thanks for all this.

I’m just putting these questions out to the rest of y’all. Do we want money? I’m inclined to say yes 'cos they’re offering it. We’ll run the stall both days, I reckon. I intend to hang out there most of the time and build a costume.

Here’s the list of helpers so far:
Rhiannon
Steve

Other volunteers put your hands up now

Yes, we most certainly want money for this. One reason is to raise funds for NZ LARPS. The other is to manage the demand.

Given that the Battlecry attendees are unlikely to have LARP costumes on hand, we will likely be outfitting the whole bunch.

So, our game will have a limited capacity - lending itself to the concept of requesting a small fee (e.g $3). Requiring a fee means that the attendees will be more inclined to honour their commitment to play.

Pencil me in as a helper. I’m intending to go to both the Mordavia event on Sunday and the Saturday night LARP event - so if I’m out there both days anyway, I might as well help out. Of course, this is subject to me being able to organise transport, hence the pencilling.

I think the game itself should be free for those who have already paid for BattleCry but gear use should raise a fee ($3 like last year sounds fine). I.E. If people have their own gear and want to play they can do it for free, but I’m not expecting many people to be in this position.

I’ll be helping on the stall for some of the time, I’ll email the NZLARPS members who I know have been to some LARP events and ask if they want to give a hand with the stall. Perhaps if we can’t get name tags, just a clip we can stick our membership cards in would do.

As for the timing of the game at the moment, I have no idea. I suggest that it might be best to assemble at 2 in order to get roles and costumes and gear to everyone, with an estimated start 2.30 to 3, finishing sometime later probably between 4.30-5.30 depending on how much game material I end up with. The waiting round last time was a bit annoying though. If people have any good ideas for the game could they post them up on the forum or email to me at rdayking@yahoo.co.nz.

I would agree, except that I think giving it for free and just charging for costume hire would almost certainly result in no-shows.

In the committee meetings, we decided to give all players a 50% off joining LARPS coupon on completion of the game. Since joining would be $10, this is effectively worth $5, so a game fee of $3 is more than refunded by this. Having a $3 fee is a bit more incentive to avoid no-shows, too.

OK folks I’ve been busy and slack but theres something done now.
Here’s the main blurb (as of yesterday)

Meanwhile, near Carpathia…

Theft seems to be the buzzword of the day as the priceless jewellery of two minor nobles has been pilfered. One noble, now waiting in a hamlet three days south of Carpathia, has raised a small force of townsfolk and adventurers to seek out and deal to the thieves while returning her precious heirloom. The other, a minor noble of Carpathia, has contracted a handful of Mercenary Guild members to recover her precious article.

Player cap set at 10. Crew needed. Briefings, costuming and gear hire will begin at 2pm.

Please note: Players from Mordavia are advised not to bring their characters unless they can think of a good way to leave wherever they currently are, arrive in a village in the middle of nowhere, and also get back to Berium in less than a week. A few new characters may be able to continue their characters at the upcoming Mordavia weekend game, given logistics arrangements.

Cool, I’ve just posted to the America lists, and a note in the Mordavia forums.

I’ve had 2 definite bookings so far for players. And I know of a couple of people who will most likely offer to be crew… I’ll prod them some more.

I’m going to offer the Mordavia game as one of the roleplaying options, and that might get us some more players.
