BattleCry 2012 - 17th, 18th and 19th February

Hi folks,

Well it’s 9 months until the next BattleCry and we are now fully into work mode for our next event.

We are looking for people who are interested in running workshops, talks, discussion groups, mini half day larps for small numbers and other larping related events.

We have 4 slots of larps over the BattleCry weekend.

  1. Friday night from 7pm onwards where we could run a 12 to 16 person larp.
  2. Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 6pm where we can run a 2 to 8 person larp.
  3. Saturday night is our flagship larp from 7pmish onwards. The theme for 2012 is Viking and we have a small team of ideas people working on this. We are looking for more people for the team, please contact me if you are interested.
  4. Sunday afternoong from 2pm to 6pm where we can run a 2 to 8 person larp.

For 2011 we ran our first series of workshops. Derek ran an awesome “Making Larp safe weapons” workshop and Kara ran a highly commented on makeup workshop. We would love to run a series of workshops over BattleCry 2012 covering a wide range of topics and speakers. Is anyone interested in running something? We are also looking into ways where we can pay people to run workshops, so if you have an idea for something you would love to learn about please let us know incase we can find someone to run it.

We will also be having our annual paper sword battle with the Alfs, and anyone can participate. And we do have a bit of field space so if anyone would like to run a TrollBall event, or a larp weapons practice session let me know.

New website up and running at www.battlecry.co.nz
or email us on info@battlecry.co.nz for more info.

Regards,
Karen

One workshop I would like to try and organise is one about hair… how to do hair for different styles and genres, where to find good cheap hair products that don’t stuff up your hair, colour sprays or other things that can be used for colour effects, how to make your own hair pieces and partial wigs and how to care for them and things like that.

Would people be interested in something like this if I can find someone to run such a workshop?

I can run a workshop on crazy hair styles if you like

I have some experience in it, particularly historically based crazy hairstyles :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool, I’ll chat to you via email about it…

Just looking for feedback from people who have attended any of the past BattleCrys who are into Larps… and those who haven’t attended BattleCry yet.

What sorts of Larping events would you like to see at BattleCry 2012?

Do you want big fully costumed events?

Do you want smaller character driven mini larps?

Do you want workshops on costuming, make up, building props, how to fight using larping weapons etc?

Are you new to larping and want a low-newbie styled larp to try out? Do you want tips on larping and how to improve things?

Do you want just costumed events with no larp like a masked ball? Or a fashion parade to show off your costume and special effects props?

Would you like to see trade stands selling gear like costume pieces, make up and prosthetic pieces, props and jewellery etc?

Is there something you would like to learn for a future larp?

Please let me know what you think as we are working on the event programme for BattleCry 2012 right now.

Rightio, so far I’ve only had about 10 people offer any sort of feedback. We also haven’t had any luck with requests for larp ST’s for writing/running any larps at BattleCry yet. At the end of August we will need to make a decision on the timetable of events so we can get booklets printed for the registration launch on the 1st of October.

So, is anyone is keen to run anything larp related at BattleCry 2012?

If so, please get in touch.

Regards,
Karen

I can re-run Little Dipping’s Great Experiment if you like.

DO IT!! I didn’t get to it at Chimera, so here you go, you already have one player on board.

Oooh, yes please! What sort of space do you need? Would 1 largish room do, or do you need several rooms? I can also arrange for set decorations and props if you like… I’ll email you off list. Yippee!

Hi Karen - I have some (and by some, I mean extensive) discussion thoughts on larping at Battlecry. Would it be all right to email them to you?

Absolutely! Much appreciated!

one largish room is fine

Awesome. I’ll email you off-list to talk details. Thanks
