Awhitu Environmental Camp

Just so all game organisers are aware, Awhitu Environmental Camp has changed hands and is no longer administrated by Waiuku College. It is now owned and run by the Highwire Charitable Trust. I will post their contact details as soon as I have them.

Perhaps now they will be more reliable.

I spoke the Highwire Charitable Trust on the telephone just now. The group has cancelled all bookings from the point they took over the camp, because they are planning to undertake renovations of the camp over winter to get it up to health and fire standards which it apparently currently doesn’t meet. From September, they will start taking bookings again. The lady I spoke to said the facility will be primarily for use by their education and youth groups, with some room for community groups. I expressed our fondness for the venue and our desire to build a relationship with them.

The details for the new owners are:

Did they mention whether they’ll be setting up climbing walls, flying foxes, etc?

Just browsing through news articles about the trust, that kind of outdoor adventure seems to be their focus. But it doesn’t exactly improve a venue from a larp perspective.

I thought Awhitu was owned by the Council. Did they sell it? Or am I mistaken?

I’d say based on the first post, it was in the hands of the College, so no, not the council, unless they sold it to the College at some point.

Actually, none of the above  The camp was privately owned and administered by the college - the council one of the camp grounds on the peninsula but not that particular one. The college just did the day to day admin of the camp, but they weren’t the owners.

Oh. Apparently I was mistaken  Let’s hope we get along well with the new owners, and have many an enjoyable game there.
