Yes, we will try and pose better this time :unamused:

I’ll probably drop in for one day…just to see what specials are on offer. But not 3 day…nothing there this year that tickles me.

I’ll be working there sunday and monday teaching magic:the gathering.

It is a hard job, but someone has to do it.

I dropped in to Armageddon today to do a fighting demo for the SCA.

I’d forgotten that Armageddon smells like unwashed teenage boys.

I was at Armageddon today and boy, I think I saw almost everyone I know :open_mouth: Every time someone walked past me in a cosplay costume I felt the overwhelming urge to hand them a flier and ask them to come larp.

Muppet’s right, it’s time we got in on the Armageddon action. I recall some years back we were considering this and someone said that it cost $2000 for a stall, so we kind of shelved the idea. But looking around this year, I got the distinct feeling from a few of the stalls, particularly some of the independent comic stands and such, that those guys don’t have $2000 for a stand - yet they were there anyway. I’m pretty sure there must be a provision for non-profit groups or something. At any rate, it wouldn’t hurt to get in touch and see if can maybe strike some kind of deal - maybe they’ll let us advertise in exchange for us doing something at the event.

So, in short, anyone know who to contact for Armageddon?

I was there Saturday doing an SCA combat demo. Don’t think it cost anything.

Not sure who you’d contact.

When we asked in 2007 it was $900.
But we did forget to ask about the non profit bit.

Not sure if they have much space there though.

I’d been pushing for this for a while, ever since it was just Mordavia running.
I think the better idea than a stall is a group of people in the best costumes we have walking around with flyers. Epsecially hitting all the people queueing to get in in the mornings.

I can nominate a few people for best costumes… it wouldn’t take much for a number of us to turn up in our best gear for any number of games… a gargoyle here, a dryadic Wilding there, the silent warrior standing menacingly in the walk way, a few vampires avoiding the windows… nzLARPs could certainly put in an impressive presence… plus I’ve never been to an Armegeddon before…

I think all it will take is for someone to take ownership and do it. Everyone’s been pushing for it, nobody’s been doing it. We’ve got a year to prepare now!

I hope to have a stall there in 2009 for something else, so we may be able to organise both tables at the same time.

The committee actually has it as one of its goals for the next year. Anything we do, it has to be official because it’s not cool to piggyback off someone else’s event.

(If you don’t believe me, Scotty, ask Nich about it)

Well put me down as a helper - I’ll attempt to encourage Knightshade players to come along - I would be more than happy to help man a stall, wander around in full costume, hand out fliers, participate in mock battles… whatever is needed.

No need, I know what you’re talking about. What I was talking about though was being outside the event, not inside.
Aotea Square is a nice public venue and everyone has to go through it to get into the event centre. Being outside also means you catch people that are just passing through that aren’t even going to Armageddon. Those queues in the morning are the perfect captive audience too.
The last time I checked with Bill (about 2 years ago) a stall was going to cost $850. Kinda expensive, and from what I’ve heard the price has gone up since then.

I think there is actually some sort of back door that people can go through as well, but apparently almost no one knows of it. So you’re right, outside the front of the Aotea centre is DEFINITELY a captive audience :smiling_imp:

There are actualy FIVE other entrances…3 for staff (stage door and 2 through the loading dock), one into the herald theatre (but you need an access pass to get from there to the main floor) and one down stairs from the carpark (which is locked during armageddon)…so you point is still valid :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ll want to approch the Aotea Centre for permission to set up in aotea square operation group (“the edge”) as they are also the operating group for aotea square. The council owns the areas but have given the management of the 3 buildings (town hall, civic and aotea centre) as well as the square over to “the edge”.

The problem with this is that if Bill doesn’t want us outside piggy backing on his event…well lets just say his bussiness is more important to “The Edge”
