Armageddon Expo Oct 24-26

I have talked to the organisers of armageddon and have been allowed to hand out flyers and talk to people about nzLarps and larping in general outside of the armageddon where the participants will be lining up and entering into the expo.

I will be working on the flyer over the next day or two and will get a flyer print out done. Are there any previous reasources we have generated for a flyer?

The times we will be going is each day in the morning from around 8:30 to when the lines die down.

What we need:

  • People to hand out flyers and willing to talk to people in the line about larping - Note: you will be required to wear a costume.
  • Costumes from the nzLarps gear, including the stone golem pending on Gaffy.

If you are at all interested please post in thread or pm me.

Muppet

This is awesome, Muppet. I’ll be there on Saturday and for as much of Sunday as I can manage. We should get a really big crowd in costume to make us look good. Who else is keen?

Ill be there

I can make it for maybe an hour or so on one of the days. grumbles Stupid Dissertation…

What costumes are wanted?

Fanstasy. It has broad appeal, is easily recognised and fits in with the crowd that we are approaching.

If you’re handing out flyers, it’d be nice to advertise a specific event. That way, interested parties will have something specific to consider (e.g. “cool something is happening in 3 weeks, I need to make contact and sort out my shit before then”).

You could encourage them to crew at the upcoming Wolfgang weekend game, that would be a nice introduction and crew are needed by the sound of things.

I really hope there’s a few of us going to this!

Zara and I will be there on Monday morning (apparently my one day off this labour weekend when i hope to get a nice lay in is to be shattered with a horrifically early morning :frowning:)

It’s currently looking like we will be handing out flyers on the saturday and monday morning.

I just got home from our first Armageddon stint. It went really well. It’s a big event this year, so there was a massive queue snaking around the grounds and out down the road. A captive and incredibly bored audience - so the novely provided by the golem, and by Gaffy having sword fights with the kids was really good. Me and Nikki chatted to the people who looked interested and handed out about 500 fliers.

We had pretty good reactions from people, Armageddon was definitely a good crowd to hit. Reactions included:

  • “Oh you’re those guys from 20/20”
  • “Oh it’s like that thing from Role Models”
  • “LARPING! People do that here! Can I have a flier?”
  • “Oh my god actual larpers, that’s so cool!”
  • “You mean we can come along and do this ourselves? Really?”
  • “Hey do you guys know Mr Meads, my teacher?”

We got interviewed by a school media studies project from Western Springs College, and met Tyson Tyler, who did a music video with the Stone Golem.

We’ll be back on Monday, it’s a lot of fun, and more people would definitely make it easier.

what time are we meeting on monday and where?

After todays events, which went very well mind you, we’ve decided that starting 9am is the best deal. The show is at the asb showgrounds, but when we got there today at 830 most of the parking was gone already.

If we could get Gaffy to bring a few more swords, we can have more people have a bit of a bash with the kids. I was just going to turn up in costume again, put my smile on and chat to the crowds like I did today.

Cool I hope that gets up on the Stone Golem’s facebook page.

it already onthe golems face book , tyson the guy who sung “monster inks”

I was there Sunday, with the Ball of Cuteness (my 4yo daughter, in bunches, with cat ears).

Didn’t see any NZLARPS people, alhtough I met up with a friend of Anna’s at the Cutest Stall In the Whole Exhibition. Advertised NZLARPS (after overhearing he had been injured by a werewolf) only to find that El Presidente had already recruited him. :unamused:

Too much computer games, not enough anime and manga. But it was fun.

I big thankyou to all that came and helped throughout the weekend:

Nikki - My rock, keeping me sane and being my eyes while I was in the golem suit
Anna - Excellent work with talking with people in the lines one on one and getting them interested.
Gaffy - A huge help with props and transport, also holding battles for the punters which was a huge success
Erin - for turning up on sunday to help and finding out that none of us we’re there, big sorry but a big thank you for coming
Zara, Adam, David Agnew, David Harrop, Wong - Coming out stupidly early on monday morning and handing out the flyers and doing mock battles, is always appreciated

Special thanks:
Judit - for being a big help with the flier and offering free parking.
Heath - Mock battling on the saturday morning

Again, a big thank you to everyone that came. We learn’t a lot this year and will be well equipped for next.

Yeah to echo Muppet here, well done all those that came out today, and in full costume too, I think we did ourselves proud today.

Cheers everyone for coming along - it’s harder than it looks to put yourself out there to the general public and try and explain to them what we do. We mostly got good reactions but there were a few bad ones. So thanks for putting yourselves out there.

And big thanks to Muppet for not only being in that golem suit for hours, and being our star attraction, but for getting this organised, getting the fliers made up and arranging permission.
