"Argonautica" and "Boats Against the Current" published!

Two of my smaller games, “Argonautica” (Kapcon 2012) and “Boats Against the Current” (Kapcon 2014) are now published on the great big internets  Many thanks to everyone that’s been involved, including the players, the beta readers, Judit for her patience with teaching me how to make it pretty, the New Zealand larp publishing community for answering my questions. Yay, they’re online!

Find them here:

That’s so cool, they look awesome!

Nice! Will check them out when I get home.

Awesome!!!

Congratulations. And now you get the joy of vanity googling every few months to see if they’ve been run.

Yay vanity Googling!

Well, that’s two games done. Ten to go!

Cool !

Did it take long to format for publication ? What would make it easier next time around ?

It would be really cool if we added game-writing functionality to the Chimera website that was specifically designed to make it easy to publish the larps on teh internetz…(another thing to add to my Larping TODO list)…

If you just want to get stuff on the net, you can use larpwriter or google docs.

Not to discourage anyone, but it took ages to get ready for publication. The biggest challenge was writing the “script” - getting all the details out of my head and organised so it was comprehensible for someone that wasn’t me.

The formatting took a while as well, but that’s because I really wanted to have a really nice looking document (my graphics sense is pretty poor, so 'really nice" is probably somewhat subjective). I used InDesign for the layout which is powerful but has a steep learning curve.

Then I spent months being a perfectionist and worrying over ever detail.

I tend to budget as much time for editing as I did for writing. (I always think it will take less time, and then it always works out at about the same.) Er, I own the ‘perfectionist’ label as well? Plus, getting all the switches set up for an upload to DriveThruRPG takes longer than you’d expect - I’d plan to have an evening to fiddle and make sure it’s how you want it.

[/quote]I’m finding that after the first time or two you do this, it gets easier, because you’ve got a better idea of how to explain your game and you’ll get a structure that works for you that you can reuse. It’s also good writing exercise for future games - it makes you think about your games from other people’s POVs.

More people publishing is great!
