you dont see cockroaches either, until you turn the lights on, and i place politicians lower on the evolutionary scale than cockroaches.

It’s probably uncool to say it but I’m pretty happy with politicians in New Zealand. They are for the most part honest people doing a difficult job in the public eye and all we really get to see of what they do is things that affect us directly and what we see in the news. Journalists seem to enjoy mud racking so that’s what we get to see in the news.
I pretty much get what I want from a government - I’m left alone to pursue my own interests in a country where people live in peace and prosperity. Employment rates are high, crime is low, tax is manageable, young men are not conscripted into the army and sent overseas to die, females are equal in law to males, poverty is optional.
I would like to see the government be slightly more proactive on Green issues but I believe they’re heading that way.
If you don’t like the current crop of politicians, vote for one you do like.
We once had a rather large debate at work about the state of politics once.
The old timers all said “What we really need is a real man in Parliment!”
I quipped back “We already do, and his name is Helen”
At that point several people started shouting “She’s da MAN!”
Break out the Hawaiian shirts and cigars (outdoors of course), Banana republic here we come!

Crime might be low on the north shore but our crime rate is increasing everywhere else, believe me, Im attending a murder scene almost every day now.Thats not just in Auckland either.
Criminals are being incarcerated, released, then committing the same crimes again. Perhaps we should bring back lashing in the public square.
Viva la Revolution.
I’m perfectly happy with politicians in New Zealand.
I just have something much worse in my mind to compare with.
It’s funny how a earthquake discussion can develop into a political debate

Hmmm yes compared to Rusain politics we probably seem extremely tame by comparison
funny “Ha Ha” or funny “I am off to Hartlepool to buy some exploding trousers…Wibble Ftang ftang”
I have to agree with Adam and Derek. NZ is really not so bad when it comes to how the country is run. NZ is paradice compared to other places in the world.
I for one am happy I spent half my life growing up here in NZ rather than in South Africa.

Yes, Nikki, you know very well what you are talking about sigh
I’m happy we are both here now. And when I get my parents to here I will be completely happy.
You hear me, Kiwis? Your country is paradise!
Now I shut up and try not to annoy people any more with my yelling 8)
Funny “Ha Ha”. What the hell was the other thing? I didn’t understand half of the words, sorry
To clarify: I only moved to Auckland about a year ago, lived in Wellington till then. It’s amusing to see the flurry of excitement surrounding something that felt like a truck passing by, when compared to the earthquakes of my youth (5mins long, waking up in terror in the middle of the night, mum yelling at you to stand in the doorway, stuff falling of shelves and cracks in the plaster…that sort of thing).
And yes, NZ is a pretty decent country compared to most. If you’re only worrying about an increasing crime rate, not about being blown up in the street/bandits/enemy soldiers/rampaging tribes etc etc, then I’d say that’s a good thing!
