Anti-snoring methods

I have a tendency to be a terrbile snorer at times (mostly when I have a cold, but that seems to coincide with LARPs an awful lot), and so I have apparently kept awake both people in my room and a neighbouring room in the past - of course all while being totally unaware I’m doing so

Because I don’t want to keep people awake when they’re trying to get precious precious sleep, I’m asking if anyone knows of anything I could do to try to reduce/minimise/eliminate snoring while at a LARP. So, does anyone know of anything good?

People often snore more when they lie on their back, so sleeping on your side can help. Or if you are snoring and disturbing people they can nudge you onto your side.

:smiling_imp: Make sure your sleeping bag is comfy, plaster on insect repellent and be prepared to sleep outdoors!

Stay up all night drinking with the orcs?

Buy some ear plugs for everyone else in your room.

Sleep next to Hamish, his snoring will drown out yours.

Hmmm, some good suggestions in here. Although, I’m not actually sure where to buy earplugs these days. Any suggestions?

Also, I think there have been a few non-prescription anti-snoring products available from pharmacies in recent times. Anyone know if any of those actually work?

Yeah they actually do but they can be a bit pricey. There’s one called “Silence” which last time I worked in a pharmacy (about a year ago) had a 100% money back guarantee if it didn’t work. Apparently my mother in law uses it and it does work. But it’ll sting you upwards of $30.

As for ear plugs:

From a sound I recommend the squishy foam ones and not the hard plastic or rubber ones.

The soft foam ones squish down and expand in your ear fully plugging and block sound really well (what I used when grinding steel at the structural fabrication plant) Plus being soft they would be more comfy to sleep with in. The others not so much.

  1. Short term solution: Sew a pocket onto the back of your pajama top. Put some large marbles or similar into it, and then sew it up completely. If you roll onto your back, you will be unconfortable and will naturally roll back onto your side.

  2. Long term solution: Review your body mass index. If you are overweight, consider losing weight, as this is a contributory factor.

There are a couple of good options from a pharmacy, don’t remember costs, but you spray a couple of squirts on the back of your throat before sleeping, my wife made me use one a while ago, not only did it help with the noise, I actually slept better too. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t expensive and can personally recommend at least trying it.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions guys.

And I like the creativity of your short-term solution Mike

I call “micheljohn331” as a spambot (but a relevant and contextual one. )

Long term solution #2: Check in with your GP sometime - bad snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnoea. Or you might have hayfever or something that’s contributing.

I’m interested in all the comments about ‘don’t sleep on your back’. When I’m snoring, my partner usually tries to make me roll over from my side to my back because my breathing’s better that way. Interesting.

Other option is sleep in the bunk next to me, no-one will hear you

To help others out, I am looking at buying a tent

Which I will pitch far from other tents.
